We are currently seeking doctors to join the primary healthcare provider across Victoria's public prison system.
This organisation is the primary healthcare provider across approximately 14 public correctional facilities in Victoria, delivering comprehensive medical services to a large custodial population
Doctors in this setting provide a mix of primary and specialist care, managing complex, high-needs patients with presentations spanning mental health, substance dependence, and chronic disease.
Care is delivered within a well-supported, multidisciplinary environment, with a strong focus on coordinated, trauma-informed practice and improving long-term health outcomes.
This is a unique opportunity to work in a structured, multidisciplinary environment delivering comprehensive care to a high-needs patient cohort.
About the Role
You will be responsible for delivering primary and acute medical care within a correctional setting, managing a broad mix of chronic disease, mental health presentations, and acute clinical issues.
Working alongside an experienced team of nurses, mental health clinicians, and allied health professionals, you will play a key role in coordinating and delivering patient-centred care.
Our multidisciplinary team adopts a person centred and trauma informed approach in the delivery of healthcare, understanding that many people in prison have complex mental and physical health conditions that require a tailored approach to best manage their individual needs.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide comprehensive medical care to patients in custody
• Manage acute presentations and chronic conditions
• Develop and oversee treatment plans
• Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
