Council issues a significant number of building permits each year, providing the Building Services team with a varied and engaging workload across new dwellings, commercial buildings, industrial developments, alterations and additions.As a Building Inspector, you'll undertake mandatory inspections, investigate compliance matters, assess building work against legislative requirements and provide practical advice to builders, developers and the community.
You'll help facilitate safe, compliant development while contributing to the continued growth of Wodonga.Council issues around 600 building permits each year, providing a diverse and interesting inspection workload.Key Aspects Of The RoleConduct building inspections and ensure compliance Undertake mandatory inspections of building works at key stages of construction to assess compliance with the Building Act, Building Regulations, National Construction Code and approved plans.
You'll inspect a diverse range of developments, work closely with experienced building professionals and contribute to both regulatory compliance and positive development outcomes across the municipality.Investigate compliance and enforcement matters Investigate potential breaches of building legislation, including non-compliant building works, swimming pool and spa barrier requirements,
expired permits and unauthorised construction activities.
Assess evidence, determine appropriate actions and support the enforcement process through notices, orders and other regulatory measures where required.Assess applications and support certification processes Review building applications, plans, reports and supporting documentation to determine compliance with legislative and technical requirements.
The position also contributes to the assessment of occupancy permits, certificates of final inspection and owner-builder reports, supporting efficient and compliant statutory decision-making.Provide technical advice and customer support Work closely with builders, developers, architects, tradespeople, property owners and community members to provide qualified advice on building legislation, compliance requirements and approval processes.
The role balances strong customer service with regulatory responsibilities to help achieve practical and compliant development outcomes.What We're Looking ForRegistration with the Building and Plumbing Commission as a Building Inspector Limited or Building Surveyor Limited.Strong knowledge of the Building Act, Building Regulations,
National Construction Code and relevant Australian StandardsExperience undertaking building inspections and applying building control legislationExcellent investigation, analytical and report-writing skillsStrong communication and customer service skills with the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholdersCurrent Driver Licence and White CardWhy join us?
