Business stocks large range of the brands and supports local producers and suppliers.
Key items include high quality grocery, fresh fruits, vegetables, snacks, drinks, takeaway foods, personal care, home products, meals to go and liquor.ResponsibilityThe Retail Buyer is responsible for planning, sourcing, and purchasing grocery, fresh produce, general merchandise, and liquor products to meet the operational and customer demand requirements of Hillston IGA store.
The position plays a key role in maintaining optimal stock levels, managing supplier relationships, and ensuring the store offers a competitive and well-balanced product range across all categories.Key DutiesAssessing consumer demand, pricing, and product quality to determine the mix of grocery, fresh produce, and liquor products to be purchased for the storeReviewing sales records, stock turnover, pricing trends, and buying patterns to determine merchandise and liquor lines to be stockedNegotiating and arranging purchasing contracts, pricing, rebates, and trading terms with suppliers and vendors, including distributors and wholesalersAuthorising purchase orders, invoices, and payments to suppliers/vendors in line with company purchasing proceduresMonitoring purchasing systems,
stock management software, and ordering processes to ensure accuracy and efficiencyStay informed of market and product trends by staying connected with the suppliers, trade shows, expos, and industry eventsMonitoring competitor pricing and product ranges, and preparing sales, stock, and margin reports for managementCoordinating and overseeing the return, credit, and replacement of faulty, damaged, or out-of-date grocery and liquor stock with suppliers/vendorsLiaising with store management and department staff to ensure purchasing decisions align with store layout, promotional activity, and customer demandManaging seasonal and promotional buying, including end-of-financial-year, Christmas, and other key retail and liquor trading periodsMaintaining accurate purchasing records, supplier agreements, pricing files, and stock forecasting dataIdentifying opportunities to introduce current product lines, local produce to improve store competitiveness and customer satisfactionManaging budgets and cost control for purchasing activities to support overall store profitabilityMandatory RequirementsMinimum comparable Diploma or Higher AQF LevelMinimum 1 year of highly relevant employmentKey NotesThe role requires strong negotiation skills, commercial awareness, and a sound understanding of retail buying practices, supplier contract management, and liquor licensing and compliance requirements.
