DEPARTMENT: TransportationREPORTS TO: Director of OperationsFT/PT: Part time FLSA STATUS: Non-ExemptSALARY: $***** per hour starting wage, one hour minimum compensation guaranteed.
For current district employees applying as an additional role- total work hours will be up to 40/week.PURPOSE: The Morning School Bus Attendant assists the bus driver in ensuring the safe transportation of students to school.
This position is responsible for implementing and overseeing Positive Behavior Supports and Interventions (PBIS) and for maintaining order on the bus, assisting students with special needs, and helping create a secure environment for student transportation.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESSafety and Supervision:Monitor student behavior and ensure established rules and procedures as outlined by PBIS, MISD transportation expectations, and school policies and procedures are being followed by studentsUse PBIS to recognize and reinforce positive bus behaviorAssist students in safely boarding and exiting the busEnsure students remain seated and follow safety protocols during transitReport safety concerns, incidents, or behavioral issues to the bus driver and transportation supervisor, and when appropriate building principal or building principal's designeeStudent Assistance:Provide assistance to students with disabilities or special needs, including help with mobility equipment, wheelchairs, and safety restraintsSupport students who may need help with seat belts, bags,



or other personal itemsOffer guidance and reassurance to anxious or upset studentsMonitor students for signs of illness or distress during transportCommunication and Documentation:Maintain accurate records of student attendance and behavior incidentsCommunicate effectively with students, school staff, and transportation personnelReport maintenance issues or safety hazards to appropriate personnelComplete required paperwork and incident reports as neededEmergency Response:Assist in emergency evacuations and follow established emergency proceduresProvide first aid when necessary and are trained to do soHelp coordinate with emergency responders when situations ariseQUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCEAbility to pass a background checkPhysical ability to assist students and handle emergency situationsStrong communication and interpersonal skillsPatience and ability to work with children of all ages and abilitiesPrevious experience working with children preferredCPR and First Aid certification may be required (Any necessary training would be provided by the district)EDUCATION AND TRAININGHigh school diploma or equivalentWORKING CONDITIONSThe work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
