Makeham Flaherty is a new, specialist employment law firm with a focus on employment dispute resolution, payroll assurance, wage remediation, and regulatory engagement.
We represent employers across a variety of sectors and provide our clients with strategic, commercially focused legal advice that is practical and decisive.
The Opportunity
We're seeking an outstanding Senior Associate to join us in our Melbourne CBD office.
This is a unique opportunity to be part of a recent specialised practice where you'll work directly with the founding partners on complex and interesting matters and be at the 'ground level' of a new firm.
Reflecting our focus on work‐life balance, this role is a genuine part‐time role (0.6 FTE), with the ability to spread the working hours to suit your schedule across 3, 4 or 5 days.
There will also be the opportunity to increase your time fraction in due course, if desirable.
What You'll Do
Represent clients in workplace disputes and litigation
Conduct or advise on workplace investigations
Manage and advise on complex wage remediation projects and payroll audits
Provide strategic advice on employment and compliance issues
Engage with regulators and manage regulatory investigations and prosecutions
What We're Looking For
We are looking for a candidate with strong technical ability and who is motivated by the prospect of being part of something new.
This is a real opportunity to contribute to and shape the strategic direction of the firm.
Along with a results‐driven, positive attitude and a strong desire to succeed you will need:
6+ years PQE in employment law
Excellent relationship management and communication skills
Commercial acumen and a practical, solutions‐focused approach
Demonstrated expertise in wage and payroll issues and employment litigation
Strong technical skills with exceptional attention to detail
Admitted to practice in Australia
