Job Description
Australia runs on energy that is getting cleaner, cheaper and a lot more complicated to sell, install and service. Kuga Energy is at the front of that shift — designing, installing and managing commercial solar, battery storage, EV charging and energy efficiency projects for businesses right across the country, from shopping centres and cold storage to aged care and manufacturing.
n
We have built our own CRM to run that business end to end: leads, site assessments, proposals, system design inputs, installation scheduling, compliance paperwork and post-install service. It is genuinely ours, and it holds a decade of hard-won operational knowledge. Now we want to put large language models to work inside it.
n
This is a new role and a hands-on one. You will be the person who takes Claude and ChatGPT from interesting demos to production features our sales, design and operations teams use every single day.
n
Position
n
AI Integration Engineer (Claude & ChatGPT)
n
Location
n
Keysborough, VIC **** — in office
n
Employment type
n
Full time, permanent
n
Reports to
n
Head of Technology / Operations
n
Competitive base + superannuation, commensurate with experience
n
What you will actually be doing
n
n
Design and build LLM-powered features inside our custom CRM using the Anthropic (Claude) and OpenAI (ChatGPT) APIs — not bolt-on chatbots, but capabilities wired into real workflows.
n
Automate the paperwork that slows us down: drafting and quality-checking commercial proposals, summarising site assessments, extracting data from electricity bills and interval data, pre-filling grid connection and rebate documentation, and turning long email threads into clean CRM records.
n
Build retrieval over our own knowledge — product specs, install standards, compliance requirements,
historical projects — so the models answer from Kuga's data rather than guessing.
n
Choose the right model for the right job. You will benchmark Claude and ChatGPT (and whatever comes next) on our actual tasks and make evidence-based calls on cost, latency and accuracy.
n
Own the plumbing: API integration, prompt and context design, structured outputs, tool/function calling, evaluation harnesses, monitoring, token cost management and graceful failure handling.
n
Put guardrails around it. Customer and site data is sensitive; you will make sure our use of third-party models is secure, auditable, privacy-compliant and appropriately human-supervised.
n
Work shoulder to shoulder with sales, engineering, project delivery and service teams to find the highest-value problems — then ship, measure and iterate.
n
Bring the rest of the business along: internal documentation, training and sensible policy on what AI should and should not be trusted with.
n
n
What we are looking for
n
n
Demonstrable production experience building with LLM APIs — Anthropic Claude, OpenAI, or both. We care far more about what you have shipped than where you learned it.
n
Solid grasp of REST APIs, webhooks, authentication, queueing and asynchronous processing.
n
Practical experience with retrieval-augmented generation, embeddings and vector search.
n
Prompt engineering and evaluation skills — you can tell the difference between a prompt that demos well and one that holds up across a thousand real records.
n
Sound judgement about data security,
privacy and Australian Privacy Principles when sending business data to third-party model providers.
n
Transparent communication with non-technical colleagues, and the initiative to run with a problem in a role that has no established playbook.
n
Full working rights in Australia and the ability to work from our Keysborough office.
n
n
Highly regarded:
n
n
Experience in energy, solar, construction, field services or another operations-heavy industry.
n
Background in CRM or ERP integration work.
n
Agent frameworks, workflow orchestration or MCP-style tool integrations.
n
Document parsing and OCR at scale (proposals, invoices, technical datasheets, meter data).
n
Cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure or GCP), CI/CD and observability tooling.
n
Data analysis and reporting skills that let you prove the value of what you built.
n
n
Why Kuga
n
n
Real impact on decarbonisation. You will not be optimising ad clicks. Every project we deliver takes commercial and industrial load off fossil generation.
n
A blank page. This is our first dedicated AI role. You will set the direction, the stack and the standards rather than inherit someone else's.
n
Our own platform. Because the CRM is built in-house, you can change it. No vendor roadmap, no waiting on a third party to expose an endpoint.
n
A business with runway. An established, award-winning commercial solar company with offices in Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and the Philippines.
n
Support to keep sharpening. Budget for training, conferences and the model access you need to do the job properly.
n
n
Be careful - Don't provide your bank or credit card details when applying for jobs. Don't transfer any money or complete suspicious online surveys. If you see something suspicious, report this job ad .
