Identified role for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Candidates Located in Melbourne, VIC Fixed Term, Full Time About the Department The Victorian Aboriginal Child and Community Agency (VACCA) is Victoria's statewide Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation and peak voice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.
Founded in ****, VACCA is now Australia's largest Aboriginal child and family services organisation, employing more than 1,000 staff across eleven offices statewide.
This role sits within the Dhelk Dja Koori Caucus Secretariat, supporting the Dhelk Dja Koori Caucus - the Aboriginal community voice within Victoria's Dhelk Dja Partnership Forum to prevent and reduce family violence against Aboriginal people.
About the Role Reporting to the Manager - Policy Secretariats, you'll provide senior policy and secretariat support to the Dhelk Dja Koori Caucus, engaging directly with Caucus Chairs and Regional Coordinators to progress Victoria's Aboriginal-led family violence reform agenda.
Key responsibilities include: Planning, managing and administering Caucus meetings and the Dhelk Dja Partnership Forum, including briefings, minutes and action records Researching, analysing and drafting policy positions and submissions on issues affecting Aboriginal children and families Liaising with Family Safety Victoria's Dhelk Dja Secretariat and other government and community stakeholders Monitoring policy and legislative developments relevant to the Partnership Forum and advising Caucus members accordingly Supporting Caucus members with advice and briefings for related forums, including intersecting areas like housing, homelessness and justice About You Demonstrated experience developing policy in a government, community-controlled, or NFP context Sound understanding of the legislative and policy landscape affecting Aboriginal children and families in Victoria, including the Child Wellbeing and Safety Act and the Yoo-rrook Justice Commission Strong written and verbal communication skills,
with the ability to translate complex policy for diverse audiences Demonstrated ability to manage secretariat functions - meetings, action records, and briefing Chairs/Presenters Genuine understanding of and respect for Aboriginal cultures, communities and self-determination principles Proven ability to manage competing priorities and deliver quality work to fixed timeframes Tertiary qualifications in law, social policy, public administration, or a related field (desirable) Reach out to Marisa Conlon, ****** for a detailed position description.
