Every successful surgical procedure starts long before a patient enters the operating theatre.
John Fawkner Private Hospital is looking for dedicated Instrument Technicians to join our Sterilising Services team, ensuring surgical instruments and clinical equipment are cleaned, prepared, sterilised and ready for use.
Your work will play a critical role in supporting patient safety, infection prevention and positive clinical outcomes.
About the role As an Instrument Technician, you will be responsible for the cleaning, washing, packing, wrapping and sterilisation of reusable surgical instruments, equipment and consumables used across operating theatres and clinical areas, as well as the processing and appropriate storage of Adaptable Endoscopes, that is now managed within CSSD.
You will work closely with clinical teams to ensure high standards of quality, safety and service delivery are consistently maintained.
Key responsibilities include: Cleaning and preparing surgical instruments for sterilisation.
Packing, wrapping and processing instruments according to sterilising standards.
Maintaining stock levels of sterile supplies and equipment.
Supporting infection prevention and control practices.
Reporting equipment faults and contributing to efficient department operations.
Participating in quality improvement, audits and patient safety initiatives.
Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to support excellent patient outcomes.

About you You are organised, detail-oriented and take pride in delivering high-quality work.
You enjoy working as part of a team and understand how your contribution supports clinicians and patients across the hospital.
You'll bring: Experience as an Instrument Technician (Grade 2 or above) working within a healthcare environment, CSSD or hospital setting.
Exposure to Orthopaedic procedures Certificate, TAFE or Diploma-level qualification in Sterilisation.
Knowledge of sterilisation processes, infection control practices and quality standards.
Current, valid Australian work rights.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Effective time management and organisational skills.
