Downs Accounting is an established public accounting practice based in Rivervale. We are looking for an experienced Senior Accountant / Accounting Manager to join our team in a varied senior role combining public practice accounting, group accounting and some practice management responsibilities.
n
This is primarily a hands-on accounting position rather than an administrative management role. The successful applicant will take responsibility for the Australian accounting and reporting requirements of a significant corporate client, while also working with our broader public practice client base and assisting with the day-to-day management of the accounting team.

The Role
n
The position will involve a combination of:
n
Group and corporate accounting
n
Public practice accounting and client work
n
Review, staff support and practice management
n
The exact mix will vary throughout the year, particularly around quarterly and financial reporting periods.
n
Group & Corporate Accounting
n
You will be responsible for the Australian accounting and reporting requirements of a multi-entity corporate group. This will include:
n
Quarterly accounting for a multi-entity Australian group
n
Preparation of Australian group consolidation work in preparation for consolidation by the overseas parent company
n
Preparation of trial balances, cash flow statements and supporting financial information
n
Reconciliation of intercompany and group accounts
n
Liaison with external auditors and preparation of information for half-year and annual reporting
n
Australian cash-flow planning and coordinating funding requirements with the overseas parent company
n
Movement of funds between Australian group entities as required
n
Dividend administration and coordination
n
Accounting calculations associated with current and extended property leases
n
Review and preparation of reconciliations
n
Coordination of financial and other information with property managers
n
Oversight of shareholder registry and related administrative requirements
n
Assistance with announcements and reporting requirements for relevant securities markets
n
Other Australian accounting and reporting matters as required
n
Routine administrative, bookkeeping and transactional work is supported by our existing bookkeeping and administration team, allowing you to concentrate on the accounting and reporting aspects of the role.

Public Practice Accounting
n
You will also work with a varied portfolio of business clients, including:
n
Preparation and review of financial statements and income tax returns
n
Companies, trusts, partnerships and individuals
n
Tax planning and general taxation advice
n
Complex accounting and taxation matters
n
Direct client contact and advice
n
Practice Management
n
As one of the senior members of the practice, you will also assist with:
n
Supporting other accountants
n
Assisting with technical queries
n
Monitoring workflow and deadlines
n
Resolving day-to-day accounting and client matters
n
Assisting the Principal with the general operation of the accounting team
n
This is not a full-time management position. The majority of your time will remain focused on accounting, financial reporting and client work.

About You
n
To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:
n
Strong Australian public practice accounting experience
n
CA or CPA qualification
n
Demonstrated experience with multi-entity group accounting and consolidations
n
Experience with listed or other significant corporate clients and their reporting requirements
n
Good knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards
n
Experience with complex corporate and group structures
n
The ability to work independently and take ownership of your responsibilities
n
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
n
The ability to liaise confidently with clients, auditors and other stakeholders
n
Good organisational skills and the ability to manage competing deadlines
n
The ability to review and support the work of other team members
n
Experience with securities market reporting requirements would be highly regarded.
n
