Job Description
EDA Project Management Pty Ltd - Melbourne VIC
n
EDA is a boutique consultancy made up of small team delivering complex infrastructure projects for government and private clients. The HR Advisor is EDA's sole and fully accountable human resources practitioner. The role exists to ensure that EDA meets every one of its employer obligations under Commonwealth and State workplace, safety, privacy and immigration law; attracts, engages, develops and retains the technical people it needs to deliver its project portfolio; and operates with contemporary, documented and consistently applied people practices proportionate to a small business. The role is deliberately structured as a flexible, low-volume, high-judgement engagement: a fortnightly cadence with the Managing Director, plus responsive ad hoc advice as issues arise.
n

Employment framework and compliance — the compliance register including National Employment Standards, Fair Work Act, modern award coverage, casual employment definition, right to disconnect, general protections, sham contracting, record-keeping and pay slips, superannuation obligations, Single Touch Payroll, paid parental leave and fixed-term contract administration
n
Recruitment and onboarding — workforce planning input, position descriptions, advertising, shortlisting, interviewing support, reference and right-to-work checks, offers, contracts, induction
n
Contracts and engagement instruments — employee contracts (full-time, part-time, casual, maximum-term), contractor and subcontractor engagement terms, variations,
secondments and internal transfers
n
Remuneration and benefits — award/agreement coverage assessment, pay benchmarking, annual remuneration review process, superannuation compliance, salary packaging queries, payroll input and verification
n
Performance and development — performance review framework and cycle, goal setting, capability and competency frameworks, career development and CPD planning, underperformance management
n
Employee relations — day-to-day advice to the Managing Director and Project Directors, grievances, complaints, investigations, disciplinary process, dispute resolution, exits, redundancy, and management of Fair Work Commission matters
n
Policy and documentation — creation, maintenance and version control of the EDA Employee Handbook and all people policies; ensuring policies are issued, acknowledged and stored appropriately
n
Work health, safety and wellbeing (people aspects) — HR interface with EDA's WHS system, psychosocial hazard identification and control, workers' compensation and return-to-work coordination, fitness for work
n
Culture, engagement and diversity — engagement pulse checks, exit interview insights,
diversity and inclusion measures, and the positive duty to eliminate sex-based harassment and discrimination
n
HR records, data and reporting — employee records, record-keeping and pay-slip compliance, HR metrics reporting to the Managing Director
n
About you
n
Tertiary qualification in HR, employment relations, business or law, or equivalent experience
n
7+ years generalist HR experience, including advising business owners or executives as a sole practitioner
n
Current, confident command of the Fair Work Act and the ********* reforms (casual definition and employee choice pathway, right to disconnect, wage underpayment provisions, Payday Super, positive duty)
n
A track record running employee relations matters end to end, properly documented
n
Practical WHS and workers' compensation knowledge in Victoria and Queensland
n
A genuinely positive, can-do attitude
n
our team is positive and vibrant, and we want someone who protects that and lifts the people around them
n
Commercial, pragmatic advice — and the judgement to tell us when we need a lawyer, not a policy
n
Strong written work, comfort with Microsoft 365, and the discipline to work autonomously and remotely
n
Australian work rights and a National Police Check
