Ashburton Aboriginal Corporation (AAC) is seeking a
Learn 2 Drive Mentor
to join our team in
Newman
. AAC provides culturally appropriate services and activities while building strong relationships with job seekers to assist in overcoming employment barriers. Support in obtaining a driver's license is often the first step in overcoming a major barrier and gives the job seeker the confidence to tackle other barriers like suspended licenses, fostering greater independence and employability across the region.
About the Role:
This role is about more than teaching people to drive. It's about helping individuals gain independence, confidence, and access to employment opportunities by overcoming one of the biggest barriers to work, obtaining a driver's licence.
As a
Driving Mentor / Instructor
, you will empower participants to develop safe driving habits, build confidence behind the wheel, and successfully progress through each stage of the licensing process. Your support will play a vital role in helping local people achieve greater independence and improve their employment prospects.
This is an ideal opportunity for a patient, encouraging, and community-minded individual who enjoys working with people and making a genuine difference. You will provide one-on-one mentoring and practical support to help participants prepare for their Learner's Permit, complete required supervised driving hours, and successfully obtain their driver's licence.
While a
Driving Instructor's Licence
is not essential, AAC may provide the opportunity to undertake the necessary training and accreditation in the future,



creating additional value for both you and the community we serve.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide support and preparation for undergoing Learners Permit theory test
Assistance for undertaking Department of Transport practical driving assessment
Supervision of driving to satisfy log book hours required for a provisional MDL
Assist with hazard perception test and application for MDL
Education and awareness of legal requirements and personal responsibilities for maintaining a MDL and vehicle registrations.
Identify jobseekers with potential for employment and liaise with Employment Pathway Advisors regarding available job referrals.
Identify jobseekers with potential barriers to employment and liaise with Employment Pathway Advisors regarding referrals to service providers.
Complete daily/weekly reports regarding the operation of the Activity
About You:
We're looking for someone who is patient, encouraging and passionate about supporting people to achieve meaningful outcomes.
'C" Class Driver's License held for a minimum of 4 continuous years and be over 21 years of age;
Previous experience as a driver trainer or in a similar mentoring role (preferred)
Sound knowledge of road transport legislation, fatigue management, and heavy vehicle safety




Ability to pass the Driving Instructor examination if prospect is provided
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and coaching skills
Strong organisational and record-keeping abilities
Commitment to safety and continuous improvement
