About the role
Walgett Shire Council is seeking a hardworking and reliable Urban Maintenance Worker to join our Lightning Ridge team.
This is a permanent, full-time position (38 hours per week) for someone who enjoys practical, hands‐on outdoor work.
You will help maintain and present Walgett Shire's urban infrastructure, parks, and public spaces.
Duties include operating and maintaining hand tools and machinery, managing multiple tasks and priorities, working as part of a small team, and following health, safety, and environmental regulations.
The role also involves providing quality public service and promoting a positive image of Council and the Walgett Shire area.
Required for success:




Valid Class C driver's licence
WHS Construction Induction Card (White Card)
Tickets in plant operation, chemical safety, chainsaw operation, and first aid are highly regarded
About you
Motivated and hardworking; background in horticulture, maintenance, or water/wastewater
Physically capable; willing to perform manual labour in adverse weather
Able to conduct inspections, perform routine maintenance, and operate plant and equipment safely and efficiently
Solid understanding of safety procedures and commitment to WHS and environmental standards
Follows instructions, works within timeframes, willing to learn and adapt
Reliable, respectful, positive attitude; strong communication and team contribution
Committed to public service and upholding Council and community reputation

Hourly rate of $*****–$***** (depending on experience), plus superannuation
5 weeks annual leave and long service leave after 5 years
