The Opportunity
n
We are seeking an experienced Senior Design Manager to join the Melbourne team.
n
Reporting to the Construction Manager and working closely with delivery, pre-construction, consultants, clients, and subcontractors, you will lead and manage all aspects of the design process from Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) and tender phases through to project completion.
n
This is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring design solutions are buildable, compliant, commercially effective, and aligned with project objectives while delivering outstanding outcomes for our clients.

Design Leadership & Management
n
n
Lead the design process from ECI, bid and procurement phases through to project delivery and completion.
n
Establish, manage and maintain project design programs and deliverables.
n
Coordinate and manage multidisciplinary consultant teams throughout all project phases.
n
Chair design workshops, coordination meetings and stakeholder review sessions.
n
n
Stakeholder & Consultant Management
n
n
Manage stakeholder engagement and secure design endorsement from key project participants.
n
Engage, coordinate and manage external design consultants and specialist advisers.
n
n
Technical Compliance & Authority Approvals
n
n
Ensure compliance with all relevant Building Code requirements, Australian Standards, regulations and statutory obligations.
n
Manage planning, authority and approval requirements throughout the design process.
n
Liaise with Relevant Building Surveyors and authorities to secure building permits and approvals.
n
n
Specialist Design Coordination
n
Manage and review specialist consultant inputs including:
n
n
Fire Engineering Briefs
n
Accessibility and Access Consultant Reports.
n
Environmentally Sustainable Design (ESD) Reports.
n
Green Star and sustainability certification requirements.
n
n
Commercial & Risk Management
n
n
Manage design budgets and consultant expenditure.
n
Identify and control scope creep throughout the design lifecycle.
n
Develop design solutions that address budget constraints while maintaining project objectives.
n
Provide value management initiatives to optimise project outcomes.
n
n
Design Integration & Delivery
n
n
Review and resolve buildability challenges during design development.
n
Prepare design briefs and technical documentation to support subcontractor tendering.
n
Collaboratively develop and integrate subcontractor design solutions.
n
Review and respond to construction RFIs.
n
n
About You
n
Qualifications
n
n
Degree qualification in Architecture, Engineering,
Construction Management or a related discipline.
n
Relevant industry memberships and accreditations are highly regarded.
n
n
Experience
n
n
Extensive experience in Design Management within the construction or property industry.
n
Demonstrated experience delivering large-scale and complex building projects.
n
Strong understanding of ECI, D&C; and managing contractor procurement models.
n
Proven ability to manage multidisciplinary consultant teams and stakeholder groups.
n
Experience managing authority approvals, compliance requirements and specialist consultant inputs.
n
Strong commercial acumen with experience in design budget management and value engineering.
n
