Job Description
Senior Project Manager | Pathway to Construction Manager
n
This is not a traditional Senior Project Manager role where you are appointed to one project and remain focused solely on delivery.
n
My client is looking for an experienced Senior Project Manager who can initially support project delivery before transitioning into a broader, non-delivery position focused on pre-construction, project oversight and the management of multiple project teams.
n
Project Managers and Site Managers will report into you, with a genuine chance to progress into a Construction Manager position as the business continues to grow.
n
Our Client
n My client is a privately owned Victorian commercial builder delivering projects across Victoria.
n
The business operates across education, commercial, childcare, industrial and multi-residential construction, with a strong reputation for delivering architecturally detailed projects that require a high level of planning, coordination and stakeholder management.
n
They have built their reputation through repeat clients, strong relationships with consultants and a hands-on approach from the Directors. The business has continued to grow steadily, but importantly, they have remained focused on maintaining the culture and accessibility that helped establish them.
n
This position is part of the company's longer-term growth plan. It is not replacing someone who has left, and it is not a title being added without genuine responsibility behind it.
n
The Role
n
Working closely with the Directors, you will provide leadership across the business and support projects from pre-construction through to completion.
n Your responsibilities will include:
n
n
Leading the pre-construction and design-management process across upcoming projects
n
Attending tender walks and providing buildability and delivery input to the estimating team
n
Reviewing head contracts, project programs, construction methodology and resourcing requirements
n
Managing and mentoring Project Managers, Site Managers and other members of the delivery team
n
Overseeing project forecasting, cost reporting, subcontractor letting and cost-control strategies
n
Reviewing project performance across program, commercial, quality and HSEQ
n
Supporting new business opportunities and maintaining strong client relationships

While you will remain involved across live projects, the long-term purpose of this position is to move away from the day-to-day delivery of one individual project and take responsibility across the wider construction function.
n
About You
n This opportunity will suit an established Senior Project Manager who has successfully delivered commercial construction projects and is ready to take the next step in their career.
n You will ideally have:
n
n
A minimum of 15 years' experience within the construction industry
n
At least 8 years' experience working in a Project Management position
n
Strong experience across pre-construction, design management and D&C; delivery
n
A sound understanding of project forecasting, cost reporting and commercial management
n
The ability to oversee multiple projects and identify issues before they affect delivery
n
Strong client-facing and stakeholder-management skills
n
Tertiary qualification in Construction Management or similar
n
n
Just as importantly, you will be someone who communicates well, supports the people around you and takes a long-term view of the business.
n
Why Consider This Opportunity?
n
n
Genuine pathway from Senior Project Manager into Construction Manager
n
Transition into a non-delivery leadership position
n
Take ownership of pre-construction across multiple projects
n
Project Managers and Site Managers reporting into you
n
Work directly with the Directors on project performance and business improvement
n
Influence systems, processes, recruitment and company culture
n
Join a growing builder that is creating the position as part of its longer-term structure
n
n
For someone who has proven themselves in project delivery but does not want to continue moving from one project to the next, this offers a genuine opportunity to step into broader construction leadership.
