Job Description
Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Python Developer Software Engineer to provide technical leadership and hands‐on development for the re‐platforming of a data processing application onto a modern, scalable platform. This is a part‐time opportunity based in Dockland Melbourne on a initial 6‐month contract with possible extension.

This role will suit a senior engineer or Tech lead who enjoys remaining hands‐on while also providing technical direction, solution design, mentoring, and stakeholder engagement.

Key Responsibilities
n
n
Lead the technical design and implementation of an application re‐platforming initiative
n
Define the migration approach and develop Python solutions for complex data processing workloads
n
Design and develop data‐intensive applications, ETL workflows, APIs, and microservices
n
Build data ingestion, transformation, validation, and processing pipelines
n
Apply modern software engineering, DevSecOps, CI/CD, testing, and automation practices
n
Conduct code reviews and promote clean code and engineering best practices
n
Collaborate with Solution Architects, platform teams, Project Managers, engineers, and business stakeholders
n
Support knowledge transfer and capability uplift across application support teams
n

Key Requirements
n
n
Successful candidate must be able to obtain a Baseline Security Clearance
n
Strong commercial Python development experience, including application design, optimisation, and troubleshooting
n
Proven experience as a Senior Software Engineer or Technical Lead on application modernisation or re‐platforming projects
n
Strong understanding of object‐oriented programming, design patterns, and clean code principles
n
Experience developing data‐intensive applications, ETL pipelines, APIs, and microservices
n
Experience integrating databases, external APIs, messaging platforms, and enterprise systems
n
Strong knowledge of batch and real‐time data processing architectures
n
Experience with CI/CD, Git, automated testing, release management, monitoring, and logging
n
Experience designing microservices, event‐driven architectures, and API‐first solutions
n
Solid stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to communicate technical concepts to technical and non‐technical audiences
n
Previous experience modernising or re‐platforming legacy applications
n
Experience within large enterprise, government, or regulated environments
n
Strong understanding of security, authentication, authorisation, and compliance requirements
