Job Description
Hematology/Oncology Outpatient Pharmacist
n
As a Hematology/Oncology Outpatient Pharmacist, you will provide specialized pharmaceutical care in a rapid‐paced outpatient oncology setting.
n
Responsibilities
n
n
Provide all aspects of pharmaceutical care, ensuring safe and appropriate medication use for oncology and hematology patients.
n
Manage selected drug therapies, including chemotherapy and supportive‐care regimens.
n
Oversee dispensing, compounding, labeling, and storage of pharmaceuticals.
n
Educate patients, nurses, and physicians on medication therapy, side effects, and treatment plans specific to oncology care.
n
Manage daily pharmacy workflow within a specialized outpatient cancer center.
n
Supervise, train, and validate work performed by Pharmacy Technicians, Clerks, Intern Pharmacists, and newly hired Pharmacists.
n
Support a high‐volume, highly specialized department that requires advanced clinical knowledge and collaboration with oncology providers.
n

Qualifications
n
n
Education: Doctorate Degree in Pharm.D. or B.S. Degree in Pharmacy required.
n
Work Experience: 1 year hospital, retail, or related pharmacy experience required; oncology or hematology pharmacy experience preferred.
n
Licensure: Registered Pharmacist in the State of Georgia required.
n
n

Ensures that documentation is tailored to expected readers / users.

Supervisory & Management Skills
n
n
Supervises technical and support staff and manages departmental responsibilities.
n
Directs daily workflow processes.
n
Provides direction, gains compliance, and assumes responsibility for technical and support staff.
n
Assists with training and development of pharmacy staff (technicians, support staff, other pharmacists).
n
Gives input and feedback for yearly evaluations.
n
n
Pharmacy Skills Toolbox
n
n
Develops and demonstrates competency in core pharmacist functions relevant to oncology care.
n
Order processing/profile review – assessment for safety, efficacy, appropriateness, and accuracy.
n
Pharmacokinetics.
n
Anticoagulation.
n
Renal dose monitoring.
n
Nutrition support.
n
Antibiotic stewardship.
n
Formulary management.
n
n
Additional Duties

n
Adheres to the hospital and departmental attendance and punctuality guidelines.
n

Maintains current knowledge in present areas of responsibility (e.g., self‐education, attends ongoing educational programs).

Attends staff meetings and completes mandatory in‐services and requirements and competency evaluations on time.
n
Demonstrates competency at all levels in providing care to all patients based on age, sex, weight, and demonstrated needs.
n
For non‐clinical areas, has attended training and demonstrates usage of age‐specific customer service skills.
n
Wears protective clothing and equipment as appropriate.
