Job Description
Manufacturing Process Engineer - Quality
n
Hysata is on a mission to accelerate the shift from fossil fuels to green hydrogen with the world's most efficient electrolyser. Our breakthrough capillary-fed electrolyser achieves an unprecedented 95% system efficiency (41.5 kWh/kg) – a step change from incumbent technologies, which typically sit at ~75% and already ahead of International Renewable Energy Agency's **** target. This leap in performance enables a radically simpler system design, slashing both energy use (opex) and system and renewables capex.
n
Hysata's innovation has captured global attention, including publication in Nature Communications and support from leading strategic and financial investors such as BP, POSCO and Vestas. With over 100 team members, we're a high-performing, purpose-driven company, proud to be 35% women, representing 20+ nationalities, and united by a shared mission to enable the decarbonisation of hard-to-abate sectors such as steel, chemical manufacturing, shipping and aviation.
n
Having secured Australia's largest ever cleantech Series B raise of US$111 million, Hysata is scaling rapidly to bring our technology to market. With strong customer demand and a clear path to manufacturing at scale, we are on track to become a global leader in green hydrogen and put a major dent in global emissions.
n
About the role
n
Hysata is an electrolyser company moving from pilot-scale to sustained manufacturing, and we are building our Quality function. This is a hands-on Manufacturing Process Engineer role with a quality focus. The mission is simple: find quality problems early, lead the root cause analysis, and implement durable solutions at pace – across our in-house processes, suppliers, and testing.
You will report to the Manufacturing Manager and work directly with team leads, operators and engineers on the floor. On-site in Australia, with potential for some supplier travel.
n
The Mission
n
n
Detect – quality problems early through inspection, data, and floor presence – before they reach the next operation;
n
Diagnose – lead structured root cause analysis (RCA – 5 Whys, Fishbone, 8D) to true root cause, using evidence not assumption; and
n
Resolve – design, trial, and embed corrective and preventive actions that hold, then verify they worked.
n
n
Role responsibilities
n
n
Own inspection strategy and acceptance criteria across cell material fabrication (coatings, substrates, treatments), cell assembly, and stack operations – catching defects at the earliest, cheapest point;
n
Lead RCA on non-conformances, yield loss, and customer issues; drive corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to closure and verify they hold;
n
Improve process capability through error-proofing, parameter control, and basic SPC; convert see-and-fix cycles into permanent process and design improvements;
n
Manage supplier quality – incoming inspection, non-conformances, and documentation (CoC, inspection reports, traceability);
n
Maintain QMS records, change control, and CAPAs so quality data is trusted and audit ready; and
n
Train operators and champion a right-first-time mindset – fixing the process, not assigning blame.
n
n
What you'll bring
n
n
Ability to work efficiently and effectively in a faced paced environment where everyday presents a current challenge;
n
Degree, diploma, or trade qualification in engineering, materials science, chemistry, manufacturing, or related;
n
3–7+ years in a manufacturing process or quality engineering role, with a track record of solving real production problems;
n
Hands-on with RCA (5 Whys, Fishbone, 8D), non-conformance management, and process improvement;
n
Comfortable on the floor, biased to action, calm under pressure, and solutions-focused; and
n
Desirable: electrolysers, fuel cells, or hydrogen tech; ISO ****; SPC or data analysis; startup or scale-up experience.
n
n
What success looks like (First ***** Months)
n
n
Problems detected earlier and resolved faster, with shorter see-and-fix cycles;
n
RCA is rigorous and data-led; corrective actions hold and recurrence drops;
n
Yield improves and rework falls as fixes move from temporary to permanent; and
n
Production sees quality as a practical engineering partner, not a bureaucratic gate.
n
Build a Quality department from the ground up;
n
Direct impact on commercial electrolyser deployment; and
n
Work at the intersection of clean energy, manufacturing, and scale-up.
n
n
What we offer
n
n
Stock options;
n
Salary Sacrifice into Superannuation;
n
Flexible working conditions;
n
Recognition of Service;
n
EAP through Sonder;
n
Novated Leasing;
n
Employee discount program through Flare; and
n
Awesome work environment and a pretty cool team!
