The Opportunity

Based in South Melbourne, this immediate 6-month fixed-term contract engagement (ending 31st March) is designed for a versatile Financial Accountant who excels in environments undergoing rapid transformation. Dual-reporting to the ERP Lead with a dotted line to the Head of Finance, this role fulfills a crucial dual mandate across the evolving finance division. You will stabilize daily transactional activities- managing AP/AR workflows, supplier setups, and bank reconciliations-while simultaneously embedding operational discipline across project accounting streams. Actively identifying process gaps, you will streamline departmental handoffs, map workflows, and refine revenue recognition standards. This engagement is ideal for a forward-thinking finance professional who takes genuine satisfaction in creating order out of complexity, standardising datasets, and establishing robust operational foundations.

What You'll Do
n
As a Financial Accountant, you will play a pivotal role in stabilising core transactional operations while embedding financial discipline across project accounting streams. You will:

Implement operational discipline within project accounting, cost of sales reviews, and timesheet journal postings.
n
Assist with project cost allocations while proactively identifying process gaps that impact financial reporting accuracy.
n
Lead process mapping, documentation, and continuous improvement initiatives to ensure finance tasks are clearly owned and standardized.
n
Implement structured monthly project cost reporting, fostering explicit interdepartmental handoffs and minimizing operational rework.
n
Deliver reliable support for revenue recognition principles and overall project financial management across key business programs.
n
Oversee end-to-end accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR) processing, customer card management, and supplier onboardings.
n
Perform routine bank reconciliations and maintain daily cash flow updates to ensure complete ledger data integrity.

What You'll Bring

This role requires an agile, technically astute finance professional who can assess a complex landscape, navigate system evolutions, and add immediate value. To be successful, you will have:

Skilled Foundations: Tertiary accounting or finance qualifications; CA/CPA qualification (or progress towards) is highly regarded.

Project Accounting Rigor: Proven experience executing project cost allocations, cost of sales reviews, timesheet journals, and revenue recognition concepts.

Process Optimization Mindset: Practical experience mapping complex workflows, documenting procedures, and eliminating operational gaps to enhance accuracy.

Technical & ERP Agility: Exposure to complex enterprise ERP system environments and modern reporting tools during periods of organizational change.
n
Collaborative Impact: Strong communication skills with proven ability to build trust across interdisciplinary teams under tight deadlines.
