Assistant Hostel Manager - Housekeeping & Operations

Grosvenor Backpackers is a busy, friendly working hostel in Bundaberg, specialising in accommodation for international backpackers working in the local agricultural industry.

We are looking for a reliable and motivated Assistant Hostel Manager to join our team.
n
This is a hands-on role that would suit someone who enjoys working with people, takes pride in keeping a property clean and well presented, and is looking to gain further experience in hostel, hotel or accommodation management.
n
The role is predominantly housekeeping based, with approximately 4-5 hours of cleaning per day, combined with reception, guest services, farm transport and general hostel duties.
n
There is also the opportunity for the right person to progress into a more senior management position over time.

The Position
n
Hours: Monday to Friday, approximately 9:00am-5:00pm. These can be flexible for the right candidate.
n
The successful applicant will work closely with our existing manager, who currently works outside these hours.
n
During your shift,



you will be the main onsite contact for guests and general enquiries, helping to ensure the hostel operates smoothly throughout the day.
n
Main Duties
n
Your responsibilities will include:
n
n
Cleaning guest rooms, bathrooms, common areas and other areas of the hostel.
n
Maintaining a consistently high standard of cleanliness and presentation throughout the property.
n
Approximately 4-5 hours of housekeeping duties per day.
n
Assisting with general maintenance and upkeep of the property where required.
n
Being the onsite contact for guests during your shift.
n
Greeting guests and providing a high level of customer service.
n
Operating reception in the afternoon.
n
Checking guests in and out and assisting with reservations and enquiries.
n
Answering guest enquiries in person, by phone and online.
n
Dealing with guest issues and complaints in a professional manner.
n
Driving backpackers to and from local farms when required.
n
Assisting with farm worker transport and coordinating pickups and drop-offs.
n

Assisting with the general day-to-day operation of the hostel.
n
Working closely with the Hostel Manager.
n
n
n
Helping maintain a friendly, safe and welcoming environment for our guests.
n
n
What We Are Looking For
n
The successful candidate will ideally have:
n
n
Previous experience in housekeeping, hotels, hostels, motels or other accommodation.
n
Strong attention to detail and pride in cleanliness.
n
Excellent customer service skills.
n
A strong work ethic and reliable attitude.
n
Good organisational and time-management skills.




n
The ability to work independently and take initiative.
n
Good communication skills.
n
The ability to work well with an international team and guests from many different countries.
n
n
Driver's Licence - Important
n
A current LR (Light Rigid) driver's licence is required, or you must be willing and able to obtain an LR licence.
n
You must also have substantial driving experience and be confident driving a larger passenger vehicle.
n
A significant part of the role can involve transporting backpackers to and from farms, sometimes throughout the day, so you need to be a confident, responsible and safe driver.

Sponsorship may be available for the right candidate.

We are particularly interested in hearing from someone who is looking to establish themselves in Australia and wants to develop a longer-term career in the accommodation industry.

Important - Working Holiday Visa Applicants

Please note that this position does not count towards the 88 days / 196 days required to obtain a second or subsequent Working Holiday Visa, as the work is not eligible specified work.
