The Opportunity

Pacific Talent Partners has been exclusively retained to appoint a Chief Risk Officer for a well-established, publicly listed financial services group. Operating as a significant player in the broader credit and lending market, the organisation maintains a diversified portfolio supported by robust funding structures and wholesale capital markets.

The Role
n
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Risk Officer will take overall accountability for the group's enterprise risk, legal, compliance, and governance frameworks. The mandate requires a commercially pragmatic executive to act as an independent advisor to the CEO, Board, and executive leadership, fostering a strong culture of risk ownership across all business units.

Key Responsibilities
n

Enterprise Risk Strategy & Governance:Lead the development and continuous improvement of the group's enterprise risk framework, Risk Appetite Statement, limits, and escalation pathways.
n
Credit, Portfolio & Lending Risk:Provide independent oversight of credit risk across residential mortgage and asset finance portfolios, monitoring underwriting standards, arrears, hardship, provisioning, and macroeconomic trends.
n
Compliance, Conduct & Regulatory Engagement:Oversee compliance management across credit, financial services, privacy, AML/CTF, and consumer protection, maintaining transparent, constructive relationships with regulators.

Operational Resilience & Emerging Risk:Oversee operational risk, business continuity, third-party risk, cyber resilience, technology, data integrity, and AI governance.
n
Board & Committee Reporting:Serve as the primary risk lead for the Board Risk Committee and executive forums, delivering meaningful, forward-looking insights and risk analytics.
n
Risk Culture & Business Partnership:Champion a robust, transparent risk culture across all lines of business, providing practical advice on product design, lending, transformation, and funding decisions.

Risk Function & Governance Leadership:Lead and develop the Risk, Legal, Compliance, and Company Secretariat teams, ensuring functional capability, succession depth, and three-lines assurance alignment.

Core Competencies

Executive Leadership:A proven track record as a CRO, Deputy CRO, or senior risk executive within an ASX-listed, regulated financial services, banking, or non-bank lending environment.
n
Credit & Lending Expertise:Deep experience in credit risk oversight, responsible lending, underwriting standards, portfolio analytics, and hardship settings within mortgage and asset finance.
n
Governance & Regulatory Acumen:Comprehensive understanding of ASIC, ASX, AML/CTF, privacy, consumer credit, and conduct obligations relevant to a listed lender.
n
Operational & Technology Resilience:Strong capability in operational risk, business continuity, cyber security, data risk, third-party risk, and modern AI/technology governance.
n
Commercial & Strategic Mindset:The ability to provide independent, credible challenge while connecting risk insights to enterprise performance, strategy, and business execution.
n
Stakeholder Management:Sophisticated communication and negotiation skills with a track record of engaging credibly with Boards, Audit/Risk Committees, regulators, and executive peers.
n
