Our client is seeking an experienced Primary Substation Designer to join a growing national engineering team delivering major electricity infrastructure projects across Australia and New Zealand.

Role Type: Permanent, Full-Time
n Location: Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane | 4 days WFH (Thursday in office)
n Salary: $160,000-$220,000 Package

The Opportunity
n
Join a highly regarded engineering organisation delivering complex high-voltage substation projects that help power critical infrastructure across Australia and New Zealand.
n
Working alongside experienced engineers and multidisciplinary project teams, you'll be responsible for producing high-quality primary substation designs from concept through to detailed design and as-built documentation. You'll also have the opportunity to provide technical guidance, mentor junior designers, and contribute to improving engineering standards and design practices across the business.

Key Responsibilities
n
n
Prepare complete primary substation drawing packages from concept design through to detailed design and as-built documentation.
n
Produce general arrangement drawings, electrical layouts, sections and elevations for substations up to 330kV.
n
Develop accurate 2D and 3D models of primary plant including transformers, circuit breakers, disconnectors, surge arresters and associated equipment.
n
Design earthing systems, lightning protection layouts, cable trenches, conduit routes and associated infrastructure.
n
Perform electrical clearance checks in accordance with Australian Standards and client requirements.
n
Interpret vendor documentation and incorporate equipment details into design packages.
n




Prepare Bills of Materials for primary equipment and associated hardware.
n
Coordinate designs with civil, structural, protection, secondary and electrical engineering disciplines.
n
Participate in design reviews to ensure constructability, compliance and safety-in-design outcomes.
n
Provide technical support and mentoring to junior designers where appropriate.

About You
n
n
Demonstrated experience delivering primary substation designs within utility, consulting, engineering or EPC environments.
n
Strong knowledge of high-voltage substation layouts and primary plant design.
n
Experience producing detailed design documentation for transmission and distribution infrastructure.
n
Proficiency with AutoCAD, along with experience using one or more 3D modelling platforms such as Bentley Substation, Primtech 3D, Autodesk Inventor, Revit or similar.
n
Solid understanding of Australian Standards, utility requirements and safety-in-design principles.
n
Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary project teams.
n
Relevant Engineering Drafting qualification, Diploma of Engineering, Advanced Diploma or equivalent industry experience.
