Job Description
Build the market and shape the future of a key operation
n Neumann Steel is seeking a commercially driven Business Development Manager to lead growth across the Hunter and broader NSW market.
n
This is a hands-on new-business role—not passive account management. You will identify opportunities, develop customer relationships, assess tenders and RFQs, and build a quality forward order book for the Thornton manufacturing operation.
n
The immediate objective is to help increase production volume by approximately 25% in the first year. Medium to long term success means securing the right work while balancing volume, margin, timing, customer quality and operational capacity.
n
About Neumann Steel
n
Neumann Steel is a long-established, family-owned Australian manufacturer and supplier of reinforcing steel. With approximately 70 years of history, more than 300 employees and a national operating footprint, the company offers stability, capability and local accountability.
n
Thornton is its largest manufacturing branch outside the Currumbin headquarters. The site has modernised equipment, an experienced workforce and considerable available capacity.
n
The prospect
n
Reporting to the National Sales & Distribution Manager, you will:
n
n
Develop and execute a growth plan for the Hunter and broader NSW market.
n
Originate and convert commercial construction, civil and selected residential opportunities.
n
Build relationships with builders, contractors,
developers, engineers, estimators and procurement teams.
n
Re-engage previous customers and continually develop new prospects.
n
Qualify tenders and RFQs for strategic fit, margin, timing and delivery risk.
n
Maintain an accurate pipeline and six-to-twelve-month forward order bank.
n
Work closely with pricing, estimating, scheduling and manufacturing teams.
n
Own selected strategic accounts while maintaining a strong new-business focus.
n
n
What you will bring:
n
n
Demonstrated business development success within reinforcing steel, structural steel, construction materials, manufacturing, civil products or a related industry.
n
Evidence of personally originating and converting new work.
n
Strong commercial, numerical and opportunity-qualification skills.
n
Credibility with commercial construction, civil or infrastructure stakeholders.
n
Experience assessing RFQs or tenders and maintaining accurate pipeline forecasts.
n
A proactive, accountable and well-organised working style.
n
n
Experience in estimating, scheduling, project coordination or people leadership would be advantageous but is not essential.
n
The role offers genuine autonomy backed by national pricing, tendering, contractual and operational support. For a strong performer, there is a credible pathway to broader leadership of the Thornton operation within ***** months.
