About the Role
n
As a Spatial Specialist / Geospatial Analyst, you will be responsible for maintaining, updating, and managing spatial data related to fibre optic networks within GIS platforms, with a strong focus on ArcGIS and/or 3-GIS (and legacy GESmallworld) systems. You will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of network records, supporting both design and operational teams.

This role is ideal for someone with experience in GIS within a telecommunications or utilities setting, looking to deepen their expertise in fibre network inventory systems.

Key Responsibilities
n
n
Analyse spatial data to support fibre network planning and optimisation
n
Utilise GIS tools such as ArcGIS, QGIS and related platforms to manage and interpret spatial datasets
n
Develop and maintain mapping outputs, spatial models and geospatial datasets
n
Support infrastructure routing, network design and spatial decision making
n
Collaborate with design and engineering teams to deliver efficient fibre network solutions
n
Maintain and update GIS datasets for fibre optic network infrastructure using ArcGIS, QGIS and/or 3-GIS platforms
n
Capture, validate, and manage spatial and attribute data for network assets (cables, ducts, pits, splice points, fibres)
n
Produce high-quality maps, schematics, spatial reports and outputs for internal and external stakeholders
n
Ensure data quality, integrity, and compliance with company data models and standards
n
Perform data imports/exports and support integration between GIS, design tools (e.g., Visio), and network inventory systems
n
Support as-built documentation workflows, ensuring field updates are accurately reflected in GIS systems
n
Assist in troubleshooting GIS data issues and improving data structures and workflows
n

Skills and Experience
n
n
Degree in Geospatial Science, GIS, Engineering or related field
n
Minimum of 3 years' experience required for this position.
n
Experience working with GIS platforms (e.g. ArcGIS, QGIS, 3-GIS)
n
Strong understanding of spatial data analysis, GIS principles and mapping techniques
n
Experience in telecommunications, infrastructure or network planning (preferred)
n
Experience working with linear network datasets (e.g., fibre cables, conduits, network topology)
n
Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage and validate large datasets
n
Analytical thinking and problem-solving capability in technical environments
n
Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with design, engineering, and field teams
n
Proactive approach with a willingness to learn and improve systems and processes
n
Experience working in a telecommunications or utilities environment, particularly fibre networks.
n
Familiarity with 3-GIS workflows, including fibre path modelling, splice management, and network tracing.
n
Exposure to ArcGIS extensions or tools (e.g., Utility Network, Spatial Analyst).
n
Knowledge of additional network inventory systems such as Smallworld or IQGeo.
n
Experience with data automation or scripting (e.g., Python, SQL, ArcPy).
n
Basic understanding of CAD/design tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Visio).
