The Opportunity

We're looking for a Principal Engineer to join the ahm Core & Enabling Apps Squad as the most senior technical leader within the team.
n
In this highly influential role, you'll define and drive the technical strategy, engineering standards and technology roadmap for critical customer and core platform applications. You'll play a key role in shaping the future of cloud adoption, engineering excellence, platform modernisation and AI-enabled delivery practices, while partnering with leaders across Data & Technology to deliver secure, scalable and resilient technology solutions.

This is an ideal opportunity for a hands‐on technology leader who enjoys influencing strategy, mentoring engineers, driving innovation and leading large‐scale transformation initiatives across complex enterprise environments.
n
Key Responsibilities:
n
n
Define and drive the technical strategy, engineering standards and technology roadmap for critical customer and core platform applications.
n
Provide technical leadership across cross-functional teams, mentoring engineers and influencing technology decisions across multiple squads and stakeholders.
n
Lead cloud transformation initiatives, driving the adoption of cloud-native architectures, platform engineering practices and infrastructure as code.
n
Champion engineering excellence through automation, DevSecOps,



reliability, scalability and operational best practices.
n
Drive the adoption of AI‐assisted engineering and automation capabilities to improve delivery velocity, software quality and operational efficiency.
n
Partner with architects, security, risk, platform and vendor teams to deliver sustainable, secure and future‐focused technology solutions.
n
Lead innovation, proof‐of‐concept initiatives and continuous improvement programs that reduce technical debt and accelerate business outcomes.
n
n
Must haves:
n
n
Extensive experience leading software engineering, solution design and technology delivery within complex enterprise environments.
n
Deep expertise in AWS cloud technologies, cloud‐native engineering and modern platform architectures.
n
Proven experience designing and delivering distributed systems and scalable enterprise platforms.
n
Strong hands‐on experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation or equivalent.
n
Experience with CI/CD platforms, modern DevSecOps practices and engineering automation.
n
Demonstrated success leading engineering transformation and modernisation initiatives.
n
Experience implementing observability, monitoring and operational excellence practices at scale.
n




Proven ability to influence technical decisions and build alignment across senior stakeholders, squads and domains.
n
Experience driving adoption of AI‐assisted engineering practices and emerging technologies.
n
Strong leadership, stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non‐technical audiences.
