Job Description
Charters Paper is looking for a hands‐on Shift Supervisor for Afternoon shift. This person will be responsible for leading and managing all aspects of afternoon shift operations, ensuring a safe, productive, and high-performing production environment.

The Supervisor is accountable for delivering the production plan on time and in full, being actively involved in operating machinery, troubleshooting issues, and supporting production teams to achieve maximum output.

Key Responsibilities -

1. Safety
n
n
Champion and lead a strong safety‐first culture across all operations.
n
Ensure compliance with all Work Health & Safety (WHS) legislation, policies, and procedures.
n
Proactively identify, report, and manage hazards and risks, ensuring timely corrective actions.
n
Conduct regular site safety walks, inspections, and risk assessments.
n
Ensure all incidents, near misses, and hazards are reported, investigated, and closed out effectively.
n
Ensure machinery is always maintained in a safe operating condition, including guarding and safety systems.
n
n
2. Production
n
n
Ensure all products meet quality specifications and standards, taking immediate corrective action where required.
n
Step into operational roles when needed to maintain production continuity and reduce downtime.
n
Coordinate machine setup, changeovers, and production runs to optimise efficiency.
n
Monitor and manage key KPIs
n
Ensure strict adherence to quality control processes throughout production.
n
Manage raw material flow and availability to prevent production delays.
n
n
3. Maintenance & Asset Reliability
n
n
Manage and control spare parts inventory and register, ensuring availability of critical components.
n
Support and coordinate preventative and corrective maintenance activities as planned.
n
Maintain a hands‐on approach to machinery, including operating as required, troubleshooting, adjustments, and minor repairs.
n
Ensure equipment operates at maximum productivity and reliability.
n
Conduct routine equipment inspections to identify faults, risks, and improvement opportunities.
n
Work closely with maintenance teams to minimise downtime and enhance asset performance.
n

4. People Management & Performance
n
n
Lead, supervise, and support production staff to build a high‐performing and accountable team culture.
n
Train and upskill employees in machinery operation, SOPs, and safety requirements.
n
Develop team capability to ensure multi‐skilling and operational flexibility.
n
Manage staff rostering and shift coverage to meet production requirements.
n
Address performance issues through coaching, mentoring, and corrective action where required.
n
Ensure all staff are competent, trained, and aligned to operational expectations.
n

Skills and Experience
n
n
Trade qualification in printing or mechanical fitting is preferred, with experience in manufacturing, print, packaging, or similar paper‐based industries.
n
Proven experience in a supervisory role in a production workplace, hands‐on, can do attitude with strong communication skills.
n
Strong knowledge of WHS requirements, risk management, and safe work practices.
n
Strong mechanical aptitude and problem‐solving capability.
n
Experience managing production KPIs and driving performance outcomes.
n
Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
n
High attention to detail and a strong work ethic.
