Job Description
THE ROLE
n
The Managing Principal Solicitor will have primary responsibility for delivering services across the public law and legislation portfolios in the Legal Services Branch, with a focus on managing the department's legislation program. This position will be responsible for leading and providing high quality legal advice and services on a broad range of matters across the branch.

The Managing Principal Solicitor's will perform a critical role in providing leadership, management, support and mentorship to the solicitors in the teams.

Accountabilities Include
n

Provide authoritative advice on complex legal and policy issues and prepare high level briefings and correspondence reflecting a solid understanding of cross government legal policy considerations.
n
Lead the delivery of high quality,
client focused and cost-effective legal services in relation to highly complex and sensitive litigation and inquiries matters.
n
Manage the development and implementation of primary and subordinate legislation proposals and policy reforms, including identifying legal risks and providing practical recommendations to address such risks.

Applicants are required to submit a CV and Cover Letter (max 2 pages) outlining their suitability to the role in line with the Key Selection Criteria.

Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa. Work eligibility will be checked as part of the recruitment process. Preferred candidates will be required to complete pre-employment screening, including a national police check and misconduct screening.
