About the Role
n
As a Registered Psychiatric Nurse (Grade 3), you'll provide expert mental health nursing care to older adults in residential aged care, conducting assessments, developing treatment and behaviour management plans, and delivering evidence-based interventions. You'll work autonomously in the community while collaborating with the multidisciplinary team, GPs, carers and families. The role also includes mentoring junior nurses and delivering education to aged care staff on managing challenging behaviours.

We currently have two positions available: A Full-Time ongoing position and a Fixed-Term Part-Time (0.7EFT) position until December ****

Key Responsibilities
n
n
Conduct mental health assessments, risk screening and
treatment/behaviour
management planning for older adults in aged care
n
Deliver evidence-based interventions and education to Residential Aged Care Facility staff on managing challenging behaviours
n
Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team to support coordinated, person-centred care
n
Maintain accurate clinical documentation to qualified and legal standards
n
Mentor and support Grade 2 nurses, graduates and students
n
n
About You
n
n
An experienced mental health clinician who thrives working autonomously in the community
n
Sound clinical judgement, strong risk-assessment skills and a person-centred approach
n
Confident communicator with consumers, families and multidisciplinary colleagues
n
A natural mentor, committed to recovery-oriented, trauma-informed practice
n
n
Qualifications & Mandatory Requirements
n
n
Registered Nurse with AHPRA registration and a postgraduate qualification in psychiatric/mental health nursing (or equivalent)
n
At least 2 years' post-qualification mental health nursing experience
n
Working knowledge of the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act ****, Carer Recognition Act **** and other relevant legislation
n
Current National Police Check, Working with Children Check, and immunisation compliance
n
n
Preferred Experience
n
n
Community-based assessment of people with acute or chronic mental illness, including older adults with BPSD
n
Demonstrated knowledge, skills and experience in recovery orientated practice, family and carer inclusive practice and supported decision making
n
Experience mentoring or supervising junior nursing staff
n
n
About the Residential Support Program at Kingston Centre
n
The Kingston Residential Support Program (RSP) is a community-based service within Monash Health's Older Adult Mental Health Service, supporting people aged 65+ with a mental illness or BPSD living in Residential Aged Care Facilities. Our multidisciplinary team consist of Psychiatrists, Nurses, Social Workers, Occupational Therapists and Psychologists working together to deliver person-centred assessment, treatment and education, working closely with residents, families and aged care staff.
