An established manufacturer of precision packaging equipment is seeking an experienced machine operator or production technician to test fabricated packaging formers before they are released for use. A former is the precision assembly that guides plastic film through the bag-making process. You will run film through dedicated machinery, assess the quality of the finished bag and determine whether the former requires adjustment or should be returned to fabrication.
n
This is a practical problem-solving position for someone who understands how production machinery behaves and can think laterally about variables such as temperature, film movement, tooling alignment, cutting jaws and fabricated finish.
n
Key responsibilities
n
n
Test fabricated packaging formers using dedicated machinery and plastic film to confirm performance against specifications.
n
Assess bag quality and identify issues caused by sharp corners, hard breaks, poor finish, alignment, temperature or other operating variables.
n
Troubleshoot machinery and former performance, using sound judgement and practical trial-and-test methods.
n
Complete minor fettling, sanding and mechanical adjustments where appropriate,
or return components to fabrication for further work.
n
Perform final fit-off using hand and power tools, drawings and standard operating procedures.
n
Complete inspections, quality records and ERP traceability entries, escalating defects and packing approved products for dispatch.
n
Provide practical feedback to fabrication and engineering teams to improve product quality and former design.
n
n
Requirements
n
n
Approximately three or more years' experience operating, setting or testing production machinery.
n
Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to understand how machinery, temperature, tooling and fabricated components affect finished-product quality.
n
Experience in a fast-moving production, manufacturing, packaging or FMCG environment; food-processing experience is useful but not essential.
n
Practical fabrication awareness, confidence using hand and power tools, and the ability to recognise when a component needs fettling, adjustment or welding rework.
n
Ability to follow drawings and procedures, complete quality documentation and use Excel or an ERP system.
n
A recognised mechanical trade qualification is welcome but not mandatory where equivalent industry experience can be demonstrated.
