Production Engineering - Design and Programming

We're looking for an experienced Production Engineer to join our manufacturing team.
n
This is a hands‐on role combining production engineering, CAD/CAM and CNC programming, Design for Manufacture (DFM), customer collaboration and programming team leadership.
n

About the role
n
As our Production Engineer, you'll work closely with our Design, Estimating, Programming and Production teams to improve manufacturing processes and ensure products can be manufactured safely, accurately and efficiently.
n
Importantly, this is not a purely supervisory engineering role. You'll be expected to remain hands‐on with CAD/CAM and CNC programming, while also supporting and leading our programming team.
n
You'll also have the opportunity to work directly with customers on Design for Manufacture, helping them turn their concepts and designs into practical, high‐quality and manufacturable solutions.

Key responsibilities
n
n
Develop, evaluate and improve manufacturing processes and workflows.
n
Create and modify CAD/CAM programs for CNC manufacturing equipment.
n
Undertake hands‐on CNC programming and programming support as required.
n
Review customer drawings, CAD models and specifications and translate them into efficient manufacturing solutions.
n
Work directly with customers to provide Design for Manufacture (DFM) advice and improve manufacturability.
n




Assist customers with product development from initial design review and prototyping through to production.
n
Work closely with Design, Estimating, Programming and Production teams to resolve manufacturing challenges.
n
Optimise programs, tooling, nesting, setups and manufacturing methods to improve production efficiency and reduce waste.
n
Ensure CNC programs and Bills of Materials (BOMs) are accurate before production commences.
n
Lead, support and mentor the programming team.
n
Allocate programming tasks to support project and production schedules.
n
Review complex and critical CNC programs for accuracy, efficiency and manufacturability.
n
Provide hands‐on technical support and troubleshoot manufacturing and programming issues on the factory floor.
n
Develop programming standards, work instructions and manufacturing best practices.
n
Drive continuous improvement across programming and production engineering.
n
Support the introduction, commissioning and integration of new manufacturing equipment.
n

About you
n
To succeed in this role, you'll ideally have:
n
n
A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design or a related technical field.
n
Significant production engineering experience,



ideally within a sheet metal manufacturing setting.
n
Strong practical CAD/CAM programming experience.
n
Demonstrated CNC programming capability – you must be comfortable creating, reviewing, modifying and troubleshooting programs yourself.
n
Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, engineering drawings and tolerances.
n
A good understanding of Design for Manufacture (DFM) principles.
n
The ability to work directly with customers, understand their design requirements and provide practical technical advice to improve manufacturability.
n
The ability to help develop designs from concept through to an efficient and reliable manufacturing solution.
n
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
n
The ability to work effectively across design, programming, engineering and shop‐floor production teams.
n
Leadership or mentoring experience within a programming, engineering or production environment is highly regarded.
