Job Description
SIL - House Coordinator (Supported Independent Living)
n
Fortnightly Monday to Sunday 24/7 roster
n
Combination of direct support shifts and dedicate House Coordinator time

About the Role
n
As a Supported Independent Living (SIL) House Coordinator at What Ability, you will play a key leadership role within a SIL home, combining hands‐on disability support with day‐to‐day leadership and house coordination.
n
You will work regular rostered support shifts alongside participants and support workers, while also having dedicated time each week to maintain house standards and complete administrative work.
n
This role is about creating a safe, calm, predictable, and participant‐first home environment. You will be a stabilising presence within the home, ensuring support workers understand what is expected, participants receive consistent support, and the house operate to a high standard.

At all times, your core responsibility is to uphold the safety, dignity, rights, and well‐being of the people you support.

What You'll Be Responsible For
n
n
House operations and maintenance: coordinate day‐to‐day house requirements including general maintenance.
n
Leading and supporting staff: assist with induction within the home and model the expected standard of participant support from a worker's first shift.
n
Supporting daily living and independence: assist with personal routines, encourage skill‐building, and maintain predictable, emotionally safe environments with a focus on active support.
n
Providing personal care: supporting hygiene, dressing, mobility, and toileting while upholding dignity, consent, privacy, and cultural preferences.
n
Health and medication support: Health and Wellbeing management including allied health reviews, medication management and escalating concerns as needed.
n
Behaviour support: implement Behaviour Support Plans using proactive, least‐restrictive strategies; recognise early signs of escalation and respond calmly to distress or crisis.
n
Shared living and house dynamics: support respectful interactions between housemates, uphold house rules and safety standards, and prevent conflict or exploitation.
n
Community participation and activity support: facilitate engaging, protected, and inclusive activities aligned to participant goals; adapt in real time to ability, energy, sensory needs and risk.
n
Transport and logistics: safely transport participants to and from activities or appointments, manage schedules and time effectively, and ensure participants arrive safely.
n
Monitoring wellbeing and risk: actively observe participants for changes in mood, behaviour, health or fatigue, manage risks, and follow emergency procedures.
n
Documentation and reporting: review support plans, complete accurate progress and incident reports, and ensure records are uploaded in a timely manner.
n
Communication and professionalism: liaise respectfully with participants, families, guardians and colleagues; represent What Ability positively in the community; collaborate effectively with other staff.

What You Need to Apply
n
To be considered for this role, you must hold:
n
n
A valid Police Check (within the last 2 years)
n
State‐specific Working With Children Check (WWCC)
n
First Aid and CPR certification
n
Current valid driver's licence and roadworthy vehicle.
n
Minimum of 1‐2 years experience in disability support services
n
Valid Australian work rights or appropriate work visa
n
n
