Java Technical Lead | Solution Architecture

This established Australian software vendor develops and supports a sophisticated enterprise platform used by large organisations to manage complex products, processes and customer operations.

The platform combines configurable technology with customer-specific development, allowing organisations to implement tailored solutions while continuing to benefit from a common, scalable product architecture.

As customer demand continues to grow, the business is appointing a Java Technical Lead with strong solution architecture experience to lead the technical delivery of complex customer solutions.

The Prospect
n
You will act as the technical lead and customer-facing Solution Architect for development work delivered through the company's Delivery function.
n
You will lead an established team of eight Java developers based in the Philippines, working closely with them during Australian business hours. The team delivers the integrations and customer-specific development that sit beyond the standard configuration capabilities of the platform.
n
This is not a coding-heavy position. You will need a strong Java engineering background and enough current technical depth to review code, challenge designs, guide architectural decisions and step into development work when genuinely required.
n
Your primary focus will be solution architecture, customer engagement, technical governance, team leadership and commercially successful delivery.
n
You will work closely with Delivery Managers, implementation specialists, product stakeholders and the central Engineering function to ensure customer solutions are technically sound, scalable, secure and aligned with the long-term direction of the platform.

Key Responsibilities
n

Act as the company's principal technical representative throughout customer implementations.
n
Lead the solution architecture and technical design of complex customer solutions.
n
Understand customer technology environments and define how the platform will integrate with existing systems.
n
Design integrations with enterprise applications, third-party platforms, APIs and legacy systems.
n
Translate customer requirements into clear technical designs and practical engineering approaches.
n
Produce and maintain solution architecture documentation.
n
Ensure proposed customer work is technically feasible before commitments are made.
n




Review technical components of statements of work and delivery plans.
n
Provide technical direction to an established team of eight Java developers.
n
Remain accountable for the technical quality of all development work delivered by the team.
n
Review designs, assess code quality and guide developers through complex engineering decisions.
n
Mentor developers and build stronger technical leadership capability within the team.
n
Develop emerging team leads and create a more self-sufficient engineering function.
n
Identify technical capability gaps and support ongoing learning and development.
n
Work with Delivery Managers to coordinate resources, priorities and customer milestones.
n
Support effective team utilisation and commercially successful customer delivery.
n
Balance delivery speed with scalability, maintainability, security and platform integrity.
n
Collaborate with the central Engineering function where customer work requires specialist platform input.
n
Work constructively with customer technology teams and third-party software vendors.
n
Explain complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

About You
n
You are an experienced Java Technical Lead, Solution Architect, Technical Architect or Lead Java Engineer with a background delivering complex enterprise software solutions.
n
You have progressed beyond being solely a hands-on developer and are comfortable operating across solution architecture, customer engagement, technical leadership and people development.
n
You will bring:

Significant commercial software development experience using Java as a core technology.
n
Experience leading the technical direction of a software development team.
n
Experience working for a software vendor, SaaS company or enterprise platform provider.
n
Experience delivering customer-specific solutions on top of a common software platform.
n
Strong knowledge of enterprise integrations, APIs and distributed systems.
n




Experience designing solutions that interact with third-party and legacy systems.
n
A strong understanding of scalable architecture, software design and engineering practices.
n
The ability to review code and remain technically credible with experienced developers.
n
Experience mentoring engineers and building team capability.
n
Experience leading offshore, remote or distributed development teams would be highly regarded.
n
Strong customer-facing communication and stakeholder management skills.
n
The ability to explain technical concepts in clear, practical language.
n
Experience working collaboratively with external technology vendors.
n
Sound commercial judgement and an understanding of customer delivery environments.
