Rohde Egg Co is based at Tarlee, and houses 130,000 chickens across 24 hen-houses, with chickens roaming in over 85 hectares of range area. About the Role We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Assistant Farm Manager (Poultry Farm Supervisor) to join our team.
Reporting to the Operations Manager/General Manager, the Assistant Farm Manager will support the day-to-day management of our poultry farming operations. This is a practical, hands-on supervisory role involving poultry husbandry, flock performance, staff supervision, biosecurity, environmental control, farm maintenance, quality assurance and record keeping. The successful applicant will play an important role in ensuring the health and welfare of our birds, maintaining production standards and supporting the efficient operation of the farm.
Benefits Task & responsibilities Key Duties & Responsibilities include, but not limited to: Supporting management with the day-to-day operation of the poultry farm and supervision of farm activities. Leading, supervising and supporting farm employees to ensure daily tasks are completed safely and efficiently. Ensuring adequate staffing and assisting with the training and development of new and existing employees.
Monitoring flock health,
welfare and behaviour and promptly reporting or responding to health and production concerns. Monitoring and adjusting feed, water, lighting, ventilation and other controlled-environment systems to optimise bird welfare and production performance. Conducting bird weighing, egg weighing, yolk colour testing and other routine flock-performance checks.
Monitoring and recording production information including lay rates, feed consumption and conversion, bird weights and mortalities. Coordinating and overseeing vaccination programs, treatments and serology requirements where required. Supervising feed ordering and delivery to ensure appropriate feed is available for the age and requirements of the flock.
Monitoring farm stocks and arranging the ordering of supplies as required. Maintaining accurate farm, production, animal-health, compliance and operational records. Preparing routine production and flock-performance reports for management.
Maintaining and implementing strict farm biosecurity requirements. Ensuring compliance with company procedures, workplace health and safety requirements, animal welfare standards and applicable free-range and RSPCA requirements. Operating farm machinery and equipment safely and assisting with the supervision and coordination of machinery use.
Conducting and coordinating general farm, shed and equipment maintenance and assisting with preventative maintenance programs to minimise operational downtime. Assisting with shed preparation,
flock placement and other poultry-farm operational activities as required. Monitoring production and egg quality to ensure company standards are consistently achieved.
Completing required administration, paperwork and documentation accurately and on time. Identifying operational issues, taking appropriate corrective action and escalating significant matters to management. Qualification & experience Required Skills & Competencies A minimum of 3 years' relevant experience within the poultry industry .
Demonstrated practical knowledge of poultry husbandry, flock health, welfare and production. Experience monitoring poultry feeding, watering, lighting, ventilation and environmental conditions. Experience supervising or leading employees in a farm or poultry-production environment.
Sound knowledge of farm biosecurity and animal-welfare practices. Practical experience with farm machinery, equipment and general farm maintenance. Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accurate production and compliance records.
Good communication skills, both written and verbal. Positive computer skills, including the ability to complete reports, data entry and production or inventory records. The ability to identify and solve operational problems, make decisions under pressure and show initiative.
The ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and hands-on farming environment. A strong work ethic, reliability and commitment to maintaining high standards of animal welfare and farm operations. Preferred
