We are seeking an experienced and motivated General Accountant to join our Finance team and contribute to the organisation's financial management, reporting, governance, and compliance functions.
n
About the Role
n
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the General Accountant is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of financial information across the organisation. This role provides high-level financial reporting, budgeting, audit support, financial analysis, and internal control oversight to support informed decision-making and organisational performance.
n
The successful candidate will work closely with senior management and key stakeholders to deliver timely financial information, maintain strong financial controls, and support continuous improvement across financial processes.
n
Key Responsibilities
n
n
Assist in the development, implementation, and review of accounting and budgetary policies and procedures.
n
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, variance analysis and management reports for management.
n
Analyse operating costs, revenue, income, and expenditure trends,
providing meaningful insights and recommendations.
n
Analyse and prepare cash flow forecasting and costings for strategic and other special projects and initiatives.
n
Ensure adherence to financial regulations, taxation requirements and internal risk controls.
n
Support internal and external audit activities and ensure compliance with legislative, regulatory, and reporting requirements.
n
Review financial information to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with relevant accounting standards and policies.
n
Monitor organisational funds and cash management activities.
n
Maintain and strengthen internal control frameworks and identify opportunities for process improvement.
n
Perform account reconciliations, journal processing, balance sheet reviews, and month-end reporting activities.
n
Assist with financial governance, risk management, and compliance initiatives.
n
Prepare reports, financial analyses, and recommendations to support strategic and operational decision-making.

Qualifications & Experience
n
n
Bachelor's degree or higher qualification in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
n
2 - 3 years' relevant accounting experience in a comparable role.
n
Sound knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards (AASB)
and financial reporting requirements.
n
Demonstrated experience in preparing financial reports, budgets, forecasts, and management information.
n
Experience supporting audit processes and maintaining effective internal controls.
n
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience working with financial management systems.
n
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organisational skills.
n
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
n
Ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a collaborative environment.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience
n
n
Membership of CPA Australia, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ), or the Institute of Public Accountants (IPA), or progression towards professional accreditation.
n
Experience working within a complex multi-entity organisation.
n
Experience in the higher education, not-for-profit, or commercial services sectors.
n
Demonstrated ability to interpret financial information and provide meaningful business insights to stakeholders.
