Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Assistant Accountant to join our finance team and provide support across financial accounting, reporting, reconciliations, month-end and year-end processes, compliance and the maintenance of accurate financial records.

Reporting to the Director of Finance, you will play an important role in ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of the finance function.

Major responsibilities (core areas of work)
n
· Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts and financial reports.
n
· Perform monthly balance sheet and bank reconciliations.
n
· Maintain accurate general ledger accounts and accounting records.
n
· Assist with month-end and year-end close processes.
n
· Prepare and post journals, including accruals, prepayments and depreciation.
n
· Investigate and resolve discrepancies and unusual transactions.
n
· Maintain financial records in accordance with accounting policies and procedures.
n
Reporting & Analysis
n
· Prepare regular financial reports and supporting schedules.
n
· Assist with variance analysis and investigate differences between actual results and budget.
n
· Provide accurate financial information and analysis to the Finance Manager and other stakeholders.
n
· Maintain finance spreadsheets, schedules and reporting templates.
n
Compliance & Month-End
n




· Assist with month-end reporting and financial close activities.
n
· Prepare supporting documentation for BAS, GST and other statutory reporting.
n
· Assist with audit requests and provide supporting financial documentation.
n
· Ensure financial records comply with relevant accounting standards, legislation and internal policies.
n
Process Improvement
n
· Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and financial controls.
n
· Assist with implementing more efficient systems and procedures.
n
· Support finance-related projects and other business improvement initiatives.
n
· Maintain accurate, complete and well-organized financial records.
n
Quality Management System (QMS)
n
· Comply with and promote the organization's Quality Management System (QMS), including following documented procedures and maintaining controlled records.
n
· Support the ongoing maintenance, implementation and improvement of the QMS in accordance with ISO **** requirements.
n
· Assist with maintaining documentation and records to support QMS compliance and audit requirements.
n
· Support risk-based decision making and continual improvement across finance and business processes.
n
About you

You will be a proactive and organized accounting professional who enjoys working across a broad range of finance activities. You will have strong attention to detail, sound accounting knowledge and the ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders across the organization.

We are looking for someone who:
n
n
Has experience in an Assistant Accountant or similar accounting role.
n
Has strong knowledge of financial accounting, reconciliations and month-end processes.
n
Is confident preparing journals, financial reports and supporting schedules.
n
Has an understanding of BAS, GST and statutory compliance requirements.
n
Has solid Excel and financial systems skills.
n
Demonstrates excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
n
Can investigate discrepancies, identify issues and find practical solutions.
n
Is organized, reliable and able to manage competing priorities.
n
Communicates clearly and works effectively as part of a team.
n
Has a continuous improvement mindset and is willing to contribute beyond routine accounting tasks.
n
Ideally has experience working within, or exposure to, an ISO **** Quality Management System.
