About the role
The Auto Door & Gate Technician is responsible for the installation, servicing, maintenance, fault finding and repair of automatic doors, gates, access systems and associated electrical and mechanical equipment.
The position provides protected, reliable and professional field service to Contact Group clients while ensuring all work is completed efficiently, to a high standard and in accordance with manufacturer requirements, relevant Australian Standards, company procedures and WHS requirements.
Key responsibilities
Installation & Commissioning
Install automatic sliding, swing and revolving door systems.
Install automatic gates, boom gates, barriers and associated control systems.
Install door and gate motors, controllers, sensors, safety devices and accessories.
Install and connect access control interfaces, push buttons, key switches, intercoms and related equipment.
Assist with electrical and mechanical installation activities within the employee's qualifications and authorisations.
Configure, program, test and commission automatic door and gate systems.
Ensure installations are completed in accordance with manufacturer specifications and project requirements.
Service, Maintenance & Repairs
Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on automatic doors, gates and associated equipment.
Diagnose electrical, electronic and mechanical faults.
Repair or replace motors,



control boards, sensors, rollers, tracks, hinges, switches, batteries and other components.
Test safety devices and operational functions following servicing or repair.
Respond to breakdowns and urgent service requests.
Identify deteriorated, damaged or unsafe equipment and recommend appropriate corrective action.
Maintain accurate records of servicing, repairs and equipment condition.
Provide clear information to clients regarding faults, repairs and ongoing maintenance requirements.
Fault Finding
Use diagnostic equipment and systematic fault-finding techniques to identify equipment failures.
Interpret electrical diagrams, wiring diagrams, technical manuals and manufacturer documentation.
Diagnose faults relating to electrical supply, motors and drives, control circuits, sensors and safety devices, remote controls and receivers, access control interfaces, mechanical components, and communication and control systems.
Escalate complex faults or technical issues where specialist support is required.
Customer Service
Represent Contact Group professionally when attending client sites.
Communicate clearly with clients, building managers, tenants and other stakeholders.
Explain faults and recommended repairs in practical and understandable terms.
Minimise disruption to client operations wherever reasonably practicable.
Maintain a clean and professional work area.
Administration
Complete job documentation accurately and within required timeframes.
Record labour, materials, parts and equipment used against each job.
Complete service reports and maintenance records.
Submit photographs and supporting documentation where required.
Maintain accurate timesheets.
About you
Essential
Demonstrated mechanical or technical aptitude.




Experience servicing, maintaining or installing automatic doors, gates, access systems or similar electromechanical equipment.
Strong fault-finding and problem-solving ability.
Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools and electrical test equipment appropriate to the role.
Ability to read technical manuals, wiring diagrams and equipment instructions.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work independently and manage field-based service work.
Strong attention to detail.
Current Australian driver's licence.
Ability to travel between client sites as required.
Desirable
Electrical trade qualification.
Relevant electrical licence.
Experience with automatic pedestrian doors.
Experience with automatic gates, boom gates and barrier systems.
Experience with access control, security or intercom systems.
Experience with PLCs, control systems or low-voltage control equipment.
Manufacturer-specific training in automatic door or gate systems.
Construction White Card.
Working at Heights competency.
EWP licence or competency.
First Aid qualification.

Perform work involving bending, reaching, kneeling and repetitive movement.
Work around moving doors, gates and mechanical equipment.
Attend urgent breakdowns.
Participate in an after-hours or on-call roster where required.
