Job description
Perth Gay Games **** Ltd (PGG) is seeking applications from skilled and values-driven people to join its Board in a voluntary, non-executive capacity.
Following an internationally competitive bid, Perth will host the Gay Games ****.
This is a rare opportunity to help shape a global sporting and cultural event that will welcome thousands of athletes, artists, supporters and visitors to Western Australia.
To complement the current Board, PGG is specifically seeking applicants with substantial experience in finance or marketing.
Applicants must demonstrate strength in at least one of these two areas.
About Perth Gay Games ****
PGG is a standalone company, focused on delivering Gay Games **** in Perth.
The organisation is building the people, partnerships, and capability required to deliver the Games to international standards.
The Gay Games is one of the world's largest inclusive sporting and cultural events.
Founded in ****, it promotes participation, inclusion and personal best through sport and the arts.
The Perth Gay Games **** will celebrate LGBTQIA+ communities, welcome participants of all sexualities and genders, showcase Western Australia, and create an enduring social and community legacy.
The Role
Directors will provide strategic leadership and effective governance as PGG grows from a newly established organisation into a major-event delivery body.
Directors are expected to:
contribute to strategy, organisational development and long-term legacy planning;
oversee financial performance, risk, compliance and delivery against key obligations;
support, challenge and hold the executive leadership team accountable;
monitor readiness and performance across the Games' multi-year delivery program;
help build trusted relationships with the Federation of Gay Games, government, sponsors, LGBTQIA+ communities, sporting and cultural organisations, and other partners;
champion inclusive, community-led and culturally secure decision-making;
participate actively in Board committees, planning sessions and stakeholder activities; and




discharge the legal and ethical duties of a company director.
The Board currently expects to meet monthly, with additional committee and strategic work between meetings.
The time commitment is expected to increase as **** approaches.
Essential Criteria
Substantial experience in finance or marketing, as outlined in the sections below.
Sound strategic judgement and the ability to contribute broadly to the Board.
An understanding of governance, risk, and directors' duties.
A collaborative, constructive and accountable approach,
A strong commitment to the Gay Games principles of participation, inclusion and personal best, and to LGBTQIA+ inclusion and community stewardship.
Capacity to prepare for and participate actively in Board and committee work over a multi-year delivery period.
Eligibility to serve as a company director in Australia and a current Director ID, or the ability to obtain one before appointment.
Finance Experience
Applicants applying on basis of finance experience should demonstrate substantial experience in several of the following areas:
Strategy, planning, budgeting and forecasting for a complex or scaling organisation;
Oversight of large, multi-year or project-based budgets, and financial sustainability;
Clear financial reporting to Boards and stakeholders;
Audit, assurance, procurement and financial risk management;
Government funding, grants, sponsorship income, restricted funds, or acquittal obligations.
Marketing Experience
Applicants applying on basis of marketing experience should demonstrate substantial experience in several of the following areas:
Brand strategy and stewardship for a major event, destination,



or purpose-led organisation;
Integrated marketing across traditional, digital, and broadcast media;
Public relations, audience growth, and media engagement;
Sponsorship, partnership activation and delivery of commercial brand value; and
Reputation, issues and stakeholder communications in a high-profile environment.
Desirable Criteria
Previous service on a Board, advisory body or governance committee.
Major events, sport, arts and culture, tourism, destination marketing or international programs.
LGBTQIA+ communities, inclusive sport, community organisations or volunteer-led environments.
Working with government, major sponsors or complex funding and accountability arrangements.
