Sport Integrity Australia are looking to fill the role of Senior Lawyer - Executive Level 1About the role
As a Senior Lawyer you will be responsible for providing high quality and timely legal advice to Sport Integrity Australia's operational and support teams, as well as for the conduct of anti-doping matters.
The successful applicant will have extensive experience in one or more of the following practice areas i.e. administrative law (e.g. freedom of information and privacy), anti-doping, commercial law, integrity and managing litigation in a government regulatory environment.
As a Senior Lawyer, you will also be expected to mentor more junior staff in the Legal team.
The Senior Lawyer will perform a range of duties including, but not limited to:
Advising and acting for one or more of the areas of administrative law (e.g. freedom of information and privacy), anti doping, commercial law, integrity and managing litigation in a government regulatory workplace.
Preparing submissions for the Chief Executive Officer, including recommendations as to the exercise of the CEO's statutory functions under the National Anti-Doping scheme in relation to possible anti-doping rule violations.
Providing, and supervising the provision of, high quality legal advice to other areas of Sport Integrity Australia on a range of matters affecting the agency's operations, including the Sport Integrity Australia Act **** (Cth) and Regulations, sports policies, the World Anti-Doping Code and supporting guidelines and documents and the National Integrity Framework.
Working collaboratively with the other operational and support areas of Sport Integrity Australia, and with external stakeholders including athletes, sporting organisations, and with other national anti-doping organisations globally including the World Anti-Doping Agency,
to achieve agency objectives.
Drafting and reviewing agreements and contracts where required, including cooperation agreements with other relevant bodies and law enforcement bodies both locally and internationally.
Working in legal policy development, including providing advice on regulatory or legislative proposals relevant to Sport Integrity Australia.
Supervising and mentoring junior staff and providing legal training to other areas of Sport Integrity Australia.
The Senior Lawyer accountabilities including, but not limited to:
Providing, and managing the provision of, high quality advice on a range of complex matters within tight timeframes.
Balancing unpredictable workloads and work timetables.
Ensuring all potential anti-doping rule violations are managed in compliance with Sport Integrity Australia's legislative framework, the World Anti-Doping Code and associated standards, and sports anti-doping policies.
Ensuring all potential business support matters (such as procurement and Freedom of Information requests) are managed in compliance with relevant legislation and Government policies.
Operating in a position of trust by handling sensitive information and maintaining confidentiality at all times.
Assisting in the development and maintenance of relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, high-level documents, papers and correspondence.
Use AI-enabled tools in accordance with agency policies, professional obligations, and privacy requirements to assist with legal research, drafting, and administrative tasks.
Ensuring compliance with the Sport Integrity Australia Act **** and Sport Integrity Australia Regulations **** and complying with the APS Values and Code of Conduct, relevant legislation and Sport Integrity Australia work health and safety policies, procedures and instructions and Sport Integrity Australia ICT and Information Governance Framework.
What we are looking for (selection criteria):
A law degree from an Australian tertiary institution (or equivalent), and admission as a legal practitioner in a Supreme Court of a State or Territory.
Demonstrated experience in providing, and managing the provision of, high-quality legal advice in one or more of the relevant practice areas:
administrative law (e.g. freedom of information and privacy)
anti-doping
commercial law
integrity and managing litigation in a government regulatory environment.
Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritise changing workloads in a busy and demanding environment.
Experience in building productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to mentor and supervise junior lawyers.
Knowledge of, or the ability to quickly acquire knowledge of, sports anti-doping and integrity frameworks and jurisprudence.
