In the Community Relations Unit, you will be responsible for fostering positive relationships between Cape York Land Council (CYLC) and the communities the organisation serves. It will involve developing relationships with Traditional Owners of the Cape and assisting the CYLC internal legal and anthropological teams to effectively work with and engage with Traditional Owners.
Key responsibilities
- Co-facilitating Traditional Owner meetings in remote communities
- Providing cultural support to internal business units
- Representing CYLC at community meetings and conferences
- Developing relationships with Traditional Owners of the Cape
About you
- Previous experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, particularly in remote communities
- Ability to communicate explicit information to relevant stakeholders
- High degree of written and verbal communication skills, with a focus on attention to detail
- Relationship building skills with clients and stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to work in a high-pressure environment while managing competing priorities
- Excellent time management and organisational skills
- The ability to undertake regular travel throughout Cape York

CYLC is the native title representative body for Cape York.
CYLC has successfully pursued the recognition of Aboriginal land rights and native title and led innovative reform on the Cape. This includes supporting native title groups to engage in negotiations with various stakeholders, implement comprehensive Traditional Owner-led agreements, and build strong Aboriginal nations through the establishment of prescribed bodies corporates.
