Job Description
About the role
The Process Engineer (Mechanical) is responsible for supporting and analysing manufacturing processes, to enhance product quality, ensure compliance, and drive efficiency/optimisation improvements.
Working within a TGA/GMP-regulated nutraceutical/pharmaceutical environment, this role involves identifying process/formulation improvement opportunities,
leading RCAs (Root Cause Investigations) and supporting CAPA (Corrective & Preventative Action) implementation, whilst fostering a CI (Continuous Improvement) culture.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the delivery of engineering and capital projects from concept through to commissioning and implementation.
- Assist with the specification, installation, qualification, and validation of new manufacturing equipment.
- Prepare, update, and maintain 2D CAD drawings to support equipment installations, facility modifications, and engineering projects.
- Analyse manufacturing processes and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, safety, quality, and reliability.
- Participate in process optimisation and continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing operations.
- Support root cause investigations (RCA) and corrective and preventative action (CAPA) activities.
- Assist with troubleshooting production and equipment-related issues.
- Collaborate with R&D; teams to support the scale-up of new products and formulations into commercial production.
- Support change control activities and engineering documentation updates.
- Contribute to qualification and validation activities including IQ, OQ and PQ protocols.
- Work closely with Production, Quality, Maintenance, Validation, Supply, and Research & Development teams.
Desired Skills and Experience
About you
- Tertiary qualifications in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial) or a related technical field.
- (Optional)
Tertiary qualifications in a Science related discipline.
- A proven factory production or manufacturing background with minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in the pharmaceutical industry (preferred).
- Proven experience with 2D CAD drawings capability.
- Proven experience in process optimisation, quality systems, and continuous improvement.
- Working knowledge and ability to interpret the Australian Code of GMP.
- Solid analytical and problem-solving skills, including experience with root cause analysis tools (e.g. Fishbone, 5 Whys, FMEA).
- Experience with process mapping, validation protocols, and quality risk management.
- Strong interpersonal skills & a team player mindset. Proactive, hands-on, and solutions driven.
- Detail-oriented, with a high level of accuracy and accountability.
- Adaptable and capable of managing multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Intermediate working level with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and JDE or SAP.
The ideal candidate will be a highly analytical and detail-oriented individual with a strong commitment to quality and continuous improvement. They will possess excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying and addressing process inefficiencies. The candidate must have a collaborative mindset, working effectively across departments to drive improvements while maintaining a strong focus on compliance with TGA and GMP regulations. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential, as they will need to clearly present data, recommendations, and improvements to cross-functional teams and senior management. The successful candidate will be adaptable, capable of managing multiple priorities, and thrive in a fast-paced environment, consistently demonstrating a "can-do" attitude and dedication to operational excellence
