Company Overview
We are a well-established and highly regarded group of specialist businesses operating within the HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) industry in Sydney. With a strong track record across commercial and high-rise residential buildings, our business is built on quality, innovation, safety and a genuine commitment to our clients. As we continue to grow, we are seeking an experienced Project Engineer / Manager to join our team.
Role Purpose
The Project Engineer / Manager is responsible for leading the mechanical engineering and delivery of multiple HVAC and mechanical services projects, from tender through to completion. The role encompasses engineering design and design review, management of external mechanical services consultants, equipment selection, procurement, project delivery, commissioning and client handover — ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget and to the required quality standards.
The role builds and maintains strong relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers and internal stakeholders. It also provides commercial oversight of project financials — including cost control, variations and forecasting — and contributes to the continuous improvement of engineering and project-delivery practices.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering & Technical
• Manage mechanical engineering activities from tender through to project completion across a diverse portfolio of HVAC and mechanical installation projects.
• Manage and coordinate external mechanical services consultants, reviewing designs and technical documentation to ensure compliance with project requirements, Australian Standards,
the National Construction Code (NCC) and industry best practice.
Project Delivery & Commercial
• Lead end-to-end project delivery, ensuring programme milestones, budget objectives and quality standards are consistently achieved.
• Manage subcontractors, suppliers and internal teams to drive performance, collaboration and project success.
• Oversee project financials — including cost control, cash flow, contract variations and invoicing — while maintaining strong commercial accountability.
• Develop and maintain trusted relationships with clients, consultants and key stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
Compliance & Safety
• Ensure all works comply with project specifications, Australian Standards, the NCC, the Building Code of Australia (BCA), applicable local-authority requirements and industry best practice.
• Maintain current knowledge of, and comply with, all Work Health, Safety and Environment (WHSE) policies, procedures and legislative requirements.
Skills & Qualifications
Mandatory
• Tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
• Demonstrated experience delivering HVAC and mechanical services projects for a mechanical contractor or building-services consultancy.
• Experience managing and reviewing the work of external mechanical services consultants and coordinating engineering deliverables.
• Strong understanding of Australian Standards, the NCC, the BCA and relevant industry regulations applicable to mechanical services.
• Sound project-management and contract-administration skills, including programme management, procurement, cost control, forecasting, contract variations and commercial reporting.
• Experience in estimating, tender preparation, value engineering and bid support.
• Well-developed communication, stakeholder-engagement, negotiation and relationship-management skills across clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers and internal teams.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities while delivering projects safely, on time, within budget and to the required quality standards.
• Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite.
• Current Australian Driver Licence.
Advantageous
• Experience with AutoCAD and/or Revit MEP and Microsoft Project (or similar project-management software).
What We Offer
• The opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of technically challenging HVAC and mechanical services projects, delivering innovative engineering solutions in a dynamic and growing organisation.
• A competitive remuneration package, including base salary, superannuation and car allowance.
• Genuine career-progression opportunities, supported by ongoing mentoring, career development and pathways to senior leadership.
• A collaborative, high-performing team environment that values innovation, accountability, safety and quality.
