About the role

Sydney Wide Certifiers is expanding into the ACT and setting up a new Canberra entity. This is the role that helps build it, from a blank page to a working operation.

With the help of our General Manager, sales team and developers, you'll play a key role in designing the systems, processes and workflows behind our ACT certification business, act as Town Planner for the Canberra operation, and be the planning brain the team leans on when deciding what work we can take on.

What you'll be doing

Building the Canberra operation (the main game)

- Map the ACT regulatory and approvals setting and translate it into practical, end-to-end workflows

- Design intake, assessment, documentation and record-keeping processes that meet ACT requirements

- Work with our developers to specify, test and refine the digital systems behind those workflows

- Identify where ACT requirements diverge from our NSW practice and build for the difference

Town planning for clients

- Act as Town Planner for the Canberra operation, providing planning advice and services to clients

- Prepare and review planning assessments, statements and supporting documentation

- Advise on development approval pathways, planning constraints and likely approval risk ahead of lodgement

- Liaise with ACT planning authorities and referral agencies on behalf of clients

Planning advisory and scoping

- Advise our Canberra Registered Certifier on planning considerations for prospective work, including whether jobs sit within our capability and appetite

- Interpret ACT planning instruments, Territory Plan provisions and DA pathways

- Qualify inbound enquiries against our capability, licence conditions and risk appetite before they enter the pipeline

- Give the sales team an early planning and feasibility read so client conversations move faster and land better

Working across the business





- Partner with the GM on operational design, rollout sequencing and resourcing

- Work alongside certifiers so the process design reflects how work actually gets done

Sydney systems (a small part of the role)

- Maintain oversight of our existing NSW systems and processes, recommending improvements where you spot inefficiency or compliance risk

You'll be a great fit if you have

- A tertiary qualification in urban or town planning (or something closely related)

- At least 3 years' town planning experience in the ACT, with working knowledge of the Territory Plan, the Planning Act 2023 and ACT development approval pathways

- Full working rights in Australia

- Strong written skills – you can document a process clearly enough that someone else can pick it up and run with it

- Comfort with a blank page. There's no playbook for this operation yet; you'll help us in writing it

Bonus points for

- Exposure to building certification or working alongside private certifiers

- PIA membership

- Consultancy or client-facing experience, not purely government
