Data Operations Analyst
Sydney
Fixed-term contract (approx. 15 months)
We are working with a global consultancy who are supporting a large financial services organisation who are looking for a Data Operations Analyst to join a team responsible for ensuring data flows accurately and reliably through a series of reporting pipelines feeding regulatory and internal reporting. The organisation is partway through a multi-year program rebuilding how this data is sourced, processed and reported, and this role sits at the centre of that pipeline day to day.
The role:
You'll be responsible for making sure data moves correctly from source systems through to the teams who consume it for reporting. On a normal day, that means monitoring production runs and confirming things are flowing as expected. When something breaks, you'll be the one who identifies the issue, pulls in the right technical people, and drives it through to resolution, often working directly with stakeholders across data, technology and reporting teams to get there.
Beyond the daily monitoring, you'll also work on strengthening how the process runs: helping define what "good" looks like for service levels on each data feed, what a useful failure notification should tell you, and what a genuinely useful data quality dashboard looks like (clear, at-a-glance, no digging through logs to find the problem). As new parts of the business are brought onto the new reporting pipeline, you'll support testing, including running parallel runs alongside the live process, and coordinating stakeholders through issues that come up.
There's a reporting element too: leadership wants visibility into what's going wrong,
why, and what's being done to stop it recurring, so you'll help produce that picture regularly.
What you'll do:
- Monitor daily and periodic data production runs, confirming successful completion or triaging failures
- Coordinate the right technical stakeholders when issues arise, driving them to resolution
- Help define SLAs, failure notifications and escalation paths for each data feed as recent products come onto the pipeline
- Contribute to the design of data quality dashboards that give clear, immediate visibility into pipeline health
- Support testing activities including parallel runs as new data sources are onboarded
- Produce regular reporting on issues, root causes and resolution actions for senior stakeholders
- Balance BAU monitoring with ongoing project delivery milestones
What you'll bring:
- Genuine hands-on experience in a data operations, production support, or data quality role, ideally within banking or financial services
- Comfort working with data pipelines, batch processes or similar production environments, and diagnosing where something has gone wrong
- Strong SQL/data skills; comfort investigating and reading data flows across multiple systems
- Excellent stakeholder management: able to build rapport quickly, ask the right questions under pressure, and coordinate people across teams to solve a problem
- A naturally curious, analytical mindset, someone who drills into root cause rather than accepting "it's broken" at face value
- Experience with UAT or parallel-run testing highly regarded
- Exposure to Treasury, liquidity or regulatory reporting is a genuine plus but not required
