ABOUT THE BRANCH AND TEAM

The Human Resources Branch delivers strategic and operational people services that support the Department of Finance to attract, develop and retain a capable, high-performing workforce. Through workforce planning, recruitment, learning and development, employee relations, wellbeing, and diversity and inclusion initiatives, the branch helps create a positive and inclusive workplace culture.

Within the branch, the People Capability, Diversity and Inclusion team leads initiatives that strengthen workforce capability, inclusion and employee experience. The Indigenous Liaison Officer plays a key role in advancing the department's Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workforce priorities through cultural advice, employee support, stakeholder engagement and the delivery of inclusion initiatives.

ABOUT THE CHANCE

Indigenous Liaison Officers are responsible for providing specialist advice, coordination and support to advance the department’s commitment to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employment, wellbeing and cultural safety. The role focuses on the development, implementation and delivery of initiatives under the department’s Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), Diversity and Inclusion Strategy and related Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workforce priorities.

The Indigenous Liaison Officer provides trusted cultural advice and pastoral support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees and their managers across the employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, career development, performance management and wellbeing. The role supports the creation of a culturally safe and inclusive workplace and contributes to strategies to improve the recruitment,



retention and progression of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff.

The Indigenous Liaison Officer works closely with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Staff Network, RAP Working Group and HR stakeholders, and represents the department in relevant whole of government and external Indigenous employment and cultural networks. Through collaboration, advocacy and practical support, the role contributes to strengthening cultural capability and enhancing workplace culture across the department.

ELIGIBILITY ADVICE & CANDIDATE NOTES

- Under section 22(8) of the Public Service Act 1999, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the Australian Public Service (APS) unless the Agency Head has agreed otherwise, in writing.
- Successful applicants will be required to undergo the process to obtain and maintain, or continue to hold the required security clearance level for the role as indicated in the downloadable job pack. All Finance staff are required to have a minimum baseline security clearance prior to commencement.
