Director, Safety and Quality Location: Melbourne, VIC
Employment Type: Full-time 4-6 week contract (could extend)
Senior Leadership Position
About the Role We are seeking an experienced and highly capable Director, Safety and Quality to provide strategic leadership across clinical governance, safety, quality, performance and continuous improvement within a complex healthcare environment.
This senior leadership position will be responsible for ensuring healthcare services are safe, high quality and compliant with legislative, contractual and accreditation requirements. The successful candidate will lead the development and implementation of effective governance systems, performance monitoring frameworks and quality improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead clinical governance, safety, quality and continuous improvement initiatives across healthcare services.
- Develop and implement systems, controls and processes to monitor service performance, compliance and contractual obligations.
- Lead healthcare accreditation processes and ensure ongoing compliance with the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards.
- Analyse performance data and Key Performance Measures to identify opportunities for improvement and drive better healthcare outcomes.
- Lead the identification, investigation and management of clinical, corporate and operational risks, including incident and complaint management.
- Develop and oversee organisational safety and quality plans, clinical audit programs, policies, procedures and governance frameworks.
- Prepare high-level reports, submissions, briefing papers and performance reports for senior executives and Boards.
- Foster a culture of evidence-based practice, service evaluation, safety, quality and continuous improvement.
- Develop robust relationships with clients, senior stakeholders, regulatory bodies and external organisations.
- Provide strategic leadership and contribute to senior leadership and governance committees.
About You To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Current registration as a health practitioner with AHPRA.
- Postgraduate qualifications and/or significant senior executive experience in clinical governance, quality improvement and/or healthcare accreditation.
- Extensive senior leadership experience within a complex healthcare environment.
- Demonstrated experience developing and implementing clinical and corporate governance systems.
- Significant experience coordinating healthcare accreditation against the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards or equivalent standards.
- Strong knowledge of legislative, regulatory and contractual compliance requirements.
- Extensive experience in incident, complaint and risk management.
- Demonstrated experience developing, implementing and monitoring clinical and corporate policies and procedures.
- Highly developed verbal and written communication skills with the ability to build effective relationships with senior stakeholders.
- A demonstrated commitment to evidence-based practice, service evaluation and continuous quality improvement.
Essential Requirements
- Current and valid Australian health practitioner registration.
- Current full Australian driver's licence.
- Ability to work within a complex healthcare environment.
- Satisfactory completion of relevant background and probity checks.
- Ability to obtain and maintain any required security clearance.
- Flexibility to work outside ordinary business hours when required.
