About us:
The Cairns and Hinterland Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs Service (MHAODS) is responsible for delivering Mental Health alcohol and Other Drugs Services throughout the Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service and for supporting other MHAODS in the surrounding Hospital and Health Services of Cape York, Torres Strait Northern Peninsula Area. Its primary objective is to ensure access to a comprehensive range of treatment and support services, clinical treatment, rehabilitation, disability support, as well as early intervention, and mental health prevention and promotion.

About your opportunity:
In this position you will.......

Assess the health needs within the scope of practice, conduct brief intervention, counselling and prescribed treatment services for individuals with alcohol and other drug related problems and any co-occurring mental health problems; including their families and Indigenous communities.
To work collaboratively with other government, non-government and community groups in the development, implementation and review of other promotion, prevention and treatment services either conducted or supported by MHAODS.
Maintain a clinical caseload and provide medico-legally sound documentation regarding clinical assessment and intervention and ensure adequate case records and statistics are kept.




Participate in the provision of a standardised treatment package and assist with conducting lifestyle and relapse management groups and other treatment groups as appropriate. Prepare discharge plans where required.
Maintain the currency and high quality of professional practice knowledge, skills and expertise by actively contributing to and participating in career development activities including practice supervision.
