Innisfail Hospital services include emergency department, general medical and surgical, low risk maternity (3 beds), chemotherapy (4 chairs), and renal dialysis (8 chairs). Innisfail Hospital has 49 inpatient beds and 7 emergency department treatment spaces. Beds include three high dependency unit beds and ten same day beds/bed alternatives.
The hospital serves a population of over 8000 people and is 1.5 hours' drive from Cairns. The Innisfail region is renowned for spectacular waterfalls, fishing, Mission Beach, the Family Islands, and World Heritage rainforest.
Ward 1 provides comprehensive care for patients with acute, acute-on-chronic, and chronic conditions, incorporating a High Dependency Unit (HDU) and operating under a modified team nursing model.
The ward focuses on the management, treatment, intervention, and assessment of adult and adolescent patients with diverse inpatient needs, ensuring care is delivered close to home. Patient care types include but are not limited to acute, acute-on-chronic, and chronic conditions, delirium and dementia care, palliative and end-of-life care, and/or rehabilitation. Care is planned and implemented in collaboration with the patient, their family and carer, the nursing and multidisciplinary team.
About your role:
Your main tasks may include (but are not limited to):
Direct patient care including ADLs and assessments.
Medication management and administration.
Cannulation, phlebotomy, management of central lines (PICC and Ports).
All aspects of patient transfers (e.g. step-up transfers of patients from Innisfail to Cairns).
Providing cares to high dependent inpatients in the COU, dependant on skills and experience.
