Position Information

Forster Public School is a welcoming and inclusive primary school located in the coastal community of Forster, on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales. Situated within the beautiful Great Lakes region, Forster is a vibrant coastal community offering a strong connection to family, community, outdoor learning and the natural environment.

Selection Criteria

1. Approved to teach special education and/or experience teaching students with diverse learning needs such as moderate intellectual disability (MOP), severe intellectual disability (SDP), autism spectrum disorder (AUP), emotional disturbance (EDP), and physical disability (PDP).

2. Demonstrated capacity to plan, deliver and evaluate tailored programs with a focus on identified student needs and strengths, enhancing engagement and wellbeing.

3. High-quality classroom practice and management skills to create an inclusive, positive learning environment, enabling all students to connect, succeed and thrive in a sensory friendly environment.

4. Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain positive partnerships with students, staff, famililes, community members and support agencies, including culturally responsive practicce and respectful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students families and communities.

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

The Supported Learning team at Forster Public School is committed to providing inclusive, individualised and high-quality support that enables every student to participate, learn and experience success.

The successful applicant will work collaboratively with classroom teachers, school leaders, the Learning and Support Team, families and other professionals to support students with diverse learning, communication, social, behavioural and physical needs.

The role will focus on supporting students to access the curriculum, develop independence, build positive relationships and participate fully in school life. Support will be guided by individual student needs, learning goals and personalised plans, with a strong emphasis on developing student capability rather than creating dependence on adult support.
