About the role

The Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH) is one of Australia’s leading public health services, providing specialist medical, surgical and mental health care across hospital and community settings. The RMH Quality and Improvement (QI) team is seeking a Senior Quality and Improvement Specialist to contribute to a contemporary Whole System Quality framework across the organisation. Working closely with clinical services and colleagues across RMH, you will help strengthen quality, safety and improvement practices that support Safe, Timely, Equitable and Person-centred care.

You will support best-practice adverse event management, drive innovation and continuous improvement, and develop strategies to maintain organisational readiness for National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards assessments and other accreditation activities.

Key Accountabilities

Partner with senior clinicians and executives in Surgical Services to shape a proactive, whole-system approach to quality.




Lead implementation and development of the Integrated Clinical Governance Model across RMH.
Translate governance requirements into practical tools, processes and expert advice.
Build organisational capability and foster accountability, learning, innovation and continuous improvement.
Partner with leaders and frontline teams to strengthen clinical risk, patient safety and quality improvement.

About You

You are an experienced quality and improvement professional with a strong understanding of whole-system quality, clinical governance and healthcare improvement. You will bring:

At least 5 years’ experience in an acute healthcare setting.
Strong knowledge of improvement science and systems thinking.
Experience in project and/or change management, with a focus on delivering sustainable outcomes.
Confidence engaging with senior clinicians and executives on quality, clinical risk and patient safety.
Proven ability to lead and influence teams, modelling behaviours aligned with The Melbourne Way.
A proactive approach to ownership, accountability and continuous improvement.
Ability to shape, communicate and implement improvement initiatives that deliver organisation-wide outcomes.
