About the Job

Our client is a well-established global specialty insurer operating within the Lloyd's market. They are seeking a Casualty Underwriter to play a key role in the profitable growth of their Australia and New Zealand Casualty portfolio, reporting to the regional Head of Casualty.

The seat covers open market single-risk business across General Liability (Primary, Umbrella and Excess) together with ownership of delegated authority relationships, including referrals, day-to-day decisions and renewal negotiations. It is a market-facing role with genuine scope to develop broker relationships and pursue new business aligned to portfolio strategy.

This suits an experienced Casualty underwriter with strong technical capability and commercial acumen, ideally with exposure to the Lloyd's operating model.

Responsibilities

- Underwrite open market Casualty risks across General Liability, including Primary, Umbrella and Excess layers
- Manage a portfolio of single-risk business within underwriting guidelines, authority limits and pricing discipline
- Own delegated authority (binder and facility) relationships, including referrals and renewal negotiations
- Provide clear,



commercially sound referrals with recommendations for risks outside delegated authority
- Develop and strengthen broker and client relationships across Australia
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities aligned to portfolio strategy and profitability targets
- Maintain accurate, compliant underwriting files within required service timelines
- Liaise with underwriting support, delegated authority, operations and finance teams to deliver efficient outcomes

Requirements

- Proven Casualty underwriting experience in the Australian market
- Demonstrated experience underwriting General Liability across Primary, Umbrella and Excess
- Binder or delegated authority experience preferred
- Experience in a Lloyd's syndicate environment highly regarded
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills with disciplined risk selection
- Excellent broker-facing communication and negotiation skills; strong Excel capability
- Tertiary qualifications or qualified insurance accreditation desirable
