The Truck Driver will be responsible for operating heavy vehicles to transport freight safely and efficiently while ensuring compliance with Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL), Chain of Responsibility (CoR), fatigue management requirements, and company policies. The successful candidate will conduct vehicle inspections, secure and transport loads, maintain accurate transport documentation, and provide professional customer service throughout delivery operations.
Tasks and Responsibilities
1. Operate heavy vehicles to transport freight safely and efficiently to customer destinations.
2. Conduct comprehensive pre-start, daily, and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure roadworthiness.
3. Load, unload, and secure freight in accordance with load restraint requirements and transport regulations.
4. Plan and follow delivery schedules and approved transport routes to ensure on-time deliveries.
5. Complete delivery documentation, logbooks, consignment notes, and electronic work diaries (where applicable).
6. Monitor vehicle performance and promptly report maintenance requirements, defects, or incidents.
7. Comply with Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL), Chain of Responsibility (CoR), fatigue management regulations, and company procedures.
8. Maintain vehicle cleanliness and ensure equipment is properly maintained.
9.
Communicate effectively with dispatchers, customers, and supervisors regarding deliveries and operational matters.
10. Ensure freight is transported safely and delivered without damage.
11. Follow workplace health and safety (WHS) policies and safe manual handling procedures.
12. Assist with operational duties where required to support transport activities.
13. Represent the company professionally during all customer interactions.
14. Contribute to continuous improvement in transport efficiency, safety, and customer service.
Qualifications and Experience
1. Valid Australian HR, HC, or MC Heavy Vehicle Driver Licence appropriate to the vehicle being operated (MC Licence preferred).
2. Minimum 1 - 3 years of relevant full-time experience operating heavy vehicles in freight transport, logistics, or haulage operations.
3. Demonstrated ability to safely operate heavy vehicles under varying road and weather conditions.
4. Sound knowledge of Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL), Chain of Responsibility (CoR), fatigue management, and load restraint requirements.
5. Ability to maintain accurate transport documentation, delivery records, and logbooks.
6. Positive communication, organisational, and customer service skills.
